Precision Plus Firearms Training will be hosting the author of the book Laws of Self Defense, Andrew Branca for a seminar on the laws of self defense in Minnesota, September 20th at 12pm in Bloomington. Link Removed

The Law of Self-Defense Seminar provides a comprehensive fact- and law-based education on the law of self-defense, presented by a nationally recognized expert in the field – Attorney Andrew F. Branca, author of “The Law of Self-Defense”, and IDPA Master. Rather than a mere presentation of boring legal material, the seminar illustrates how the law of self-defense is applied in real court cases involving real people. In addition, the seminar is structured to engage students with scenario-driven applications of the legal principles governing the law of self-defense. Students leave the seminar armed with the legal knowledge and analytical tools necessary to apply the law of self-defense in a practical and actionable way to situations that arise in their daily lives. Students also leave with a written summary of the self-defense laws for each jurisdiction covered in the seminar.

Andrew F. Branca, Esq., is the foremost expert in U.S. self defense law across all 50 states, whose expertise has been used by the the Wall Street Journal, the Chicago Tribune, NPR, numerous other media organizations, as well as many private, state and federal agencies. He is a Massachusetts lawyer, Life Member of the National Rifle Association (NRA), and Adjunct Instructor on the Law of Self Defense at the SigSauer Academy in Epping, NH. He regularly lectures and speaks throughout the country on how to protect yourself against both an attack and the legal machine after.

Andrew is a multi-division Master-class competitor in IDPA and an NRA-certified firearms instructor. He holds or has held concealed carry permits for Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maine, Pennsylvania, Florida, Utah, Virginia, and other states.

I don't doubt that "The Law of Self-Defense Seminar provides a comprehensive fact- and law-based education on the law of self-defense ..."
and that, "Andrew F. Branca, Esq., is the foremost expert in U.S. self defense law across all 50 states ..."

I do however doubt:
"Students leave the seminar armed with the legal knowledge and analytic tools necessary to apply the law of self-defense in a practical and actionable way to situations that arise in their daily lives."

In 1973 I was in a self defense, and defense of a friend situation, simultaneously. Police were called, interviews and statements given, I was found to be completely on the right side, no action against me resulted. I was 18 years old but knowledeable about what one can do and not do with a gun in a self defense situation. Having been raised a farm kid with guns and hunting from an early age, then all throughout high school working weekends at a trap shoot, loading birds and refereeing, there was no 'macho tough guy' connection with guns and shooting which accompanies many urbanites and late-in-life gun owners. A gun was nothing more than a tool. When deer hunting, you'd better kill it with one shot, no rapid fire bs that you hear in the woods these days.
So, I think gun attitude is more important than these self-defense seminars.
Sure, go ahead and sign up, learn all you can, but in a real-life defense situation, your pre-cultivated attitude will synch up your emotions with your mental and moral decisions in a split second far more reliably than trying to mentally retrieve the seminar in the same amount of split second time.
