There's another change as well: One year ago, the private club required all 300 of its members to join the National Rifle Association, the nation's largest gun-rights group. Some club members objected, and a dozen or so quit. But most had their NRA cards already, and the rest signed up.

Interesting. So how'd they get their hands on me? I don't belong to any clubs.

More garbage being spread about us. Yes, some gun ranges around here require that you be an NRA Member if you want to join the club, but you don't have to join to use the range...

I don't know if it's a club requirement where we shoot, but when we asked about joining they wanted to know if we were NRA members. When I said life members for 30 years the subject was never discussed again.

Most of our members are also NRA members. Our club requires that all members have a concealed carry permit. We currently have over 1,200 members.

I shot Police revolver 1500 matches for many years and had to be a N.R.A. member to do so. I did not mind as I was already a life member.

Not a requirement at any of the ranges near me. Not a requirement at the club I belong to either. Now why don't they ask how the unions get their members? Because in many states, you can't get a job in certain vocations unless you join the unions.

The last club I belonged to wanted us all to have (and were willing to pay for the memberships, but did not require one) NRA memberships because they give some nice grants to clubs who have (I believe) at least 80% membership, another another really nice grant and insurance to clubs that have 100% membership. I recall they were somewhere around 60% and the NRA gave them a grant for $1,500 to build a new covered shooting bench.

As for the mention of the unions - that is most definitely something that is forced, generally a requirement of the job, and they force you to pay for it (upwards of $600 a year for me).

They lied to you and fooled you just like every other member. It's what they do.

Nope. I am fully aware of their agenda. Don't necessarily agree with 100% of it (though I would be pretty hard pressed to list the areas I DON'T agree with right off hand). I joined because they represent the single largest organization of gun owners fighting for our rights in the nation, and that gives them juice in DC - AND EVEN THE UN!!!.

I mention it in my classes and encourage joining because in many was they are our only voice out there. Yes it will greatly increase your junk mail, email and other "new friends" you may make. They also have some pretty good educational material. It is mentioned in those terms but also since believe it or not some have not heard about the NRA or if they have it has been minimal. I have talked with teachng groups that give away menberships so others can see if it works for them. To the best of my knowledge it stops there with most - some may be a bit more agressive and force people to sign up and even drive ....ahhhh my mistake that is acorn.

Maybe this post from another thread earlier today would help you develop that list. It lists things most gun owners would oppose the N R A involving themselves with, only it lists it in their own words, you know, as opposed to the in-depth research and analysis of their historical record that I linked to previously from JPFO. I'm hard pressed to understand how that might be so easily dismissed as not worthy of consideration, so please, take the N R A's word for their own record. Unless the things listed in that post are also things you agree with them on? Please do let us know.

I joined because they represent the single largest organization of gun owners fighting for our rights in the nation.

And I quit paying annual dues for precisely the opposite reason, because I know without a doubt that they don't fight for our rights. That's simply a lie that they are (obviously) very well-practiced at promulgating in a believable way to people too busy or too lazy to research it and see if they're telling them the truth. They aren't.
