I recommend EVERYONE go see the movie "The Hunger Games". It is the PERFECT example of what happens when a government gets too powerful, and even controls things like food and HEALTH CARE. If you get them mad at you, they deny you what you need. If you make them happy, you may get health care to heal your wounds, or a little extra food. I recommend everyone watch this before voting this year, then think, then vote your heart and mind.

Since my daughter brought the book home & talked her dad into reading it, my husband insisted on seeing the movie the first weekend. I really liked it. I have to finish another book before reading Hunger Games, but they've already read Catching Fire and started on Mockingjay too.

A really cool post-apocalypse book series is "Dies the Fire" by S.M. Sterling.

If you can find it his Dominion of the Drakka series is good reading too.

Haven't read nor seen it but some I know have read it. Strangely, unless the movie changed it, what they have told me is that it is not just an issue of government itself, but of an oligarchic government in which power is centralized in a few ultra-wealthy hands.
