I agree: Good read. It is the concise, bird's eye version of the laws of each states what is legal, restrictive and illegal. I like Mississippi's law best. I thought Missouri is pretty good but MS is better! Thanks for the article.

Why is Kentucky on the "ugly" list???? The author gave no explanation for putting Kentucky there.

The problem w/ lists like this is they become obsolete almost as soon as they're published

Texas should be on the ugly lists. If you unintentionally shoot yourself then you can't bring your weapon to the hospital to exercise your second amendment rights to protect yourself from someone intentionally shooting you while you in the hospital. What's up with that?

Her information is wrong, in Nevada you can have loaded handguns in your car!

There are exceptions...apparently whereas cities can make their own ordinances, which in turn causes confusion and maybe why Nevada got a bad rap.

North Las Vegas is said to be enforcing an Ordinance that bans the carrying of firearms unless you have a permit/license to carry. This Ordinance is most likely over ruled by state preemption but that will not keep you from being arrested and charged and give your day in court. Their Ordinance reads:
9.32.080 - Deadly Weapon Prohibited in Vehicle—Exceptions.
It is unlawful for any person to have in his possession in any automobile, truck, motorcycle, or any other type of vehicle any dangerous or deadly weapon, but this restriction shall not be deemed to prohibit the carrying of ordinary tools or equipment carried in good faith for uses of honest work, trade or business, or for the purpose of legitimate sport or recreation.

Its too bad there isn't better detail for the States that got a bad rap. I can only assume it may have to do with the overall application process and/or legislation of gun control. I see also with a few States I looked at is that there is municipal and county jurisdictions that can make rules which just causes the over legislation and confusion of gun laws. Its just easier and makes sense when the State laws define the gun/carry laws no matter where you live in that State. My 2 cents....Maine got a good review so I'm pleased. :) The laws here are generally pretty easy to figure out...and the legislature has been very pro gun in this last session.

Personally, I thought it was not a good article at all..... It had many errors and omissions.. The author didnt do much research at all, and it shows.

I'm sure its what she could fit in an article. Although she didn't explain EVERY State, she keyed on some of the reasons why a State was in its respective category. I looked at a State in each category she listed and could see what she was getting at. I believe there was actually some in depth research done here. To look at application process, costs, laws, areas of allowed carry and prohibition and other statutes mustve been quite time consuming. Not to mention caparing and categorizing afterwards.

I agree. And more than agree with her basic point: we shouldn't have to spend hours trying to not break the law when traveling with a firearm and that all citizens deserve their 2nd amendment rights. The patchwork of laws we have now are an abomination.

Agreed...wholeheartedly.

Minnesota is in the bad yet it is never specified why, what a horrible journalist. It wasn't hard at all to get my Permit To Carry here, took the class and paid got my permit a week or so later. Doesn't seem ''bad'' to me.

And Iowa is on the bad list why? I didn't think Iowa was that bad. Imo.

Iowa is getting better, but has a ways to go. Still need to pass Stand Your Ground and Castle Doctrine legislation. This was probably going to happen this session but thanks to the onslaught of lies and innuendo from the main stream media regarding the Zimmerman/Martin case, it isn't likely to happen now.

Sure I can carry. I just can't use it for fear of prison and/or financial ruin. That's why Iowa is and should be listed as "bad".

Yes and no. The CC in a vehicle is cool, and the CC laws are fairly well written. The OC law is very poorly written and misunderstood by most LEO. There is also a quite healthy list of places that a civilian with an "enhanced permit" can never CC.

The article, as I had already said, is a concised version. If you want to read the itemized law for each states i do not think you can read it there. You have to go to each states' firearm laws to be able to do that. She did not cover everything but just some points. Still a good read though...and besides MO really have some good laws though some counties' rules and regulations differs from one part to the other. MO is supposed to be an open carry state -- but NOT where I live. Our stand your ground laws is pretty good though...so is our immigration law. So that leaves the Eastern part of our main city in a somewhat "lawless" area...:bad: But I am not complaining, just saying...
