The Full Story of the Portland Concealed Carrier Who Stopped an Active Gunman

Hi all!

We saw all the traffic from here yesterday and thought you'd be interested.

Late last night we were able to set up interviews with Nick, Ashley, and Casey so that we could put together the entire encounter from the people that lived it.

It's about a 5 minute read but it's definitely worth it. Nick ended up face to face with an active shooter armed with an AR-15 and the initial reports didn't show just how much Nick put himself in harms way to protect his friends and other innocents.

This is a poster boy of responsible gun ownership. Please help us get the word out about Nick and what a responsible gun owner can do.

Uh oh here come the trolls who will say "dont worry about others, save yourself or you will be held liable."

Great article! Its not often you get this much detail.

Thank you for posting this story. I can understand Nick not wanting the publicity. However, these kinds of stories should be reported on the main stream media. Maybe leave names out if the parties involved wish to keep their privacy.

Bluntly, the interview we first posted was Nick with a local Portland news station.

The station was given all of the facts we wrote up in our full story and chose to cut the interview to skew the story dramatically - that's a large reason why we were asked to get all of the details out there (and we did over three hours of interviews to get things correct).

This story should be mainstream news and we'd be happy to supply our notes, quotes, and data if a major network (that we could trust not to spin it to shreds) came to us. But... no. Not one peep. Instead, we ask everyone to spread the link to this story any way you can. E-mail, Twitter, Facebook, whatever. The story needs to get out now more than ever. It's everyday heroes like Nick that show the public how important it is to defend yourself and your loved ones in a crisis.

Wow - looked all over the net, and the only news on this I could find was in some Portland newspaper ( might have been a local news channel). God that's discouraging...

It doesn't bleed, it doesn't lead. Doesn't fit the agenda either. Sad.

Great job. You have done what every person with a permit should of done. This is text book. He knew the situation. He took cover and concealment. He gave instructions to his friends. He did not hesitate or lose his composure. He knew his "back stop" surroundings and kept his situational awareness. He did the smart thing and did not fire a barrage of bullets. He notified police dispatch of who he was, that he was carrying a weapon and his description. If this story is true (sounds true to me), I will be using this as a training tool in any further classes I give.

I saw him on the news. He said "I indexed my weapon", the only time I have heard this term was while I was in law enforcement or at a USPSA pistol match. So I take it this guy had some very good training or is a competitive shooter. Great story and it turned out good that the suspect was not familiar with the AR-15 he had.

Thanks all for the comments and I'm just glad we were able to get Nick's story out as much as possible - although I'm still shocked when I talk to people who seem to know all about the shooting but nothing about Nick's actions.

Walknotinfear, I'll pass the words on to Nick. He plays it very cool but I know that, were it me, hearing from instructors and experts that I did it right would be greatly appreciated.

It's the new media motto: "All the news that fits their slant!"

these kinds of stories should be reported on the main stream media.

I agree, but the mainstream media (MSM) will never report them. About 99.9% of MSM are liberal New Yorkers who would rather die than report a pro-gun story.

nick did not choke up. he placed himself in harms way to protect others. the coward with the rifle killed himself because he knew the game was over.
cowards dont want to be shot and possibly only wounded. then arrested and sent to prison. he could do the crime but not the time. and or death sentence.
hats off to nick
