What’s driving the demand that has gun makers cranking up production?
Speculation has focused on fears of a coming regulatory crackdown on gun ownership. Liberal administrations tend to be anti-gun and so, the thinking goes, an Obama re-election would set the stage for stricter gun purchasing requirements. Hence, people are buying now in anticipation of difficulty later.
Indeed, looking at background checks for gun sales (a metric commonly used to gauge general industry performance) in 2009 showed a measureable increase that many attributed to Obama’s election.
Is it the same this year? Some anecdotal evidence tends to bear that out.
“I should put Obama’s picture on the wall up there,” said one New Jersey gun salesman, asking not to be identified. “I’d name him salesman of the year!”

The answer is simple.

Everyone wants to be grandfathered-in for the assault rifle of their dreams, before any new legislation comes out, either federal or state, because at this point it is obvious Romney is a dead duck in the Federal elections, and they are all afraid that something might come of the DNC platform about banning assault weapons.

Don't worry. A ban is unlikely. Since the last ban spawned Newt Gingrich. And memories are long.

Also, with violence increasing in this economy and a strong potential for even more severe violence both gun sales and CC permits are going through the roof.

One of the gun shops I frequent already has sign with Obama as Gun Salesman of the Year. Have had it there for four years. Yes, BEFORE he was elected.

Gun salesman of the year four years in a row. Wow something positive he could run on. I don't recall him mention that when he made his DNC speech. With all the negatives I'm surprised he didn't jump on that one. :sarcastic:

Gun sales are just based on a fear of the unknown. Watching news report of the violent citizen uprisings across the world sure isn't helping...
No matter who is in office there will positive and negative gun regulations. It's just dependent on how they spin it so their constituents feel it was done in good measure.
