The Differences of an AR15 and an Assault Rifle

Just about everyone thinks that AR-15 is an assault weapon. This because they think or have been told wrong. They have been told that AR means, assault rifle, when in fact it stands for the manufacture which is, Armalite, it is in fact just a long gun. Remember an assault weapon must be able to fire not only as a single shot weapon but must be able to fire automatic. If it can't fire in automatic mode it is not an assault weapon, its just a rifle period. A single shot rifle fires a single shot with one pull of the trigger. A weapon in automatic mode will fire shots as long as the trigger is held back. The AR-15 is not an automatic weapon.

Something to show all of the anti-gun people out there that think an AR-15 fires rounds like an M-16.

Guess you don't know the history of the AR-15 very well. The very first ones were capable of selective fire. It was Colt that took the AR-15 design and split it into two types of weapons. The M-16 which remained selective fire and the Civilian AR-15 version that was semi auto only in most cases. There was a period of time even after the M-16 was out that Colt would take an AR-15 and make it full auto for a customer.
