Really now, are we supposed to feel sorry for this kid? I don't. It's sad when someone so young dies from doing something completely stupid but they should know what the consequences are before attempting it.

I don't know about you but doesn't it seem like the criminals and their kin are starting to cry foul a lot more and that it isn't fair when a legally armed citizen gives one of them a dirt nap in a satin lined brass handled Buick or am I mistaken?

Family of teen armed robber killed in Rockford speaks out:

Rockford, IL (Guns Save Life) - The family of the armed robber killed last Friday in Rockford while robbing jewelry store behind his home has spoken out to the media.

Brandon Pierce was shot dead by an employee, rumored to be the proprietor, of the Jewelry Concepts store around 5pm Friday, November 30th after walking into the store with a handgun and announcing a robbery.

The subsequent investigation found the violent offender to have been armed with a pellet gun that looked like a real pistol.

Mr. Pierce, the aspiring armed robber, quickly found out that bringing a pellet gun to a gunfight is not conducive to a positive outcome for a pellet-gun wielding armed robber facing a law-abiding citizen armed with a real gun and the knowledge, skill and attitudes necessary to use it to defend their lives from predatory criminal attack.

The family spoke out to the media, angry about the outcome of the armed robbery.

Brandon Pierce was staying with his father recently, living in an apartment within sight of the jewelry store he chose to rob. The father, Michael Pierce was sentenced in 2008 to 9 years for Armed Robbery, was paroled this July.

“There’s Jewelry Concept’s back door right there,” says Pierce, his voice laden with anger and grief. “I have to look at it every single day.”

Brandon Pierce was kind-hearted and giving, his father said. The kind of kid everyone loved when they met him. But Pierce also said his son was troubled.

He was a teen high school drop-out with a pregnant girlfriend. He had a history of fighting at Harlem High School where he was a student two years ago. He had served juvenile probation for possession of a stolen ATV.

Brandon had bounced from living in the Rockford area to living with his mother in Indiana and back to Rockford following his father’s July release from prison on an armed robbery charge. Brandon struggled to find work and was desperate for cash when he walked into the jewelry store about 5 p.m. Friday, Pierce said.

Although police have said Brandon was armed with a “handgun,” his father said it was actually a pellet gun. An undisclosed employee opened fire. Brandon was shot twice in the chest, once in the side and once in the arm, according to what a family member said they were told by authorities.

The father lamented the fact that the jewelry store didn’t just let his armed-robbing son steal some jewelry because, as dad said,

“We live in a society with laws, we have a police department to handle things,” Pierce said. “My son’s life to them was worth nothing more than a handful of jewelry when their lives weren’t even being threatened. It disgusts me.”

I know this is a serious topic ...but I laughed out loud at the fathers comments.

And NO I don't feel sorry for someone who gets shot while committing an armed robbery.

All I have to say is, Goodbuy to bad rubish. Yes it was only a pellet gun, but the kid tried to use it as a real gun. He got what he deserved.

Actually, I do feel sorry for the kid. Because he had a piece of crap for a father, who did not care about right and wrong, and obviously did not attempt to teach those lessons to his son.

You reap what you sow. If the father wants to blame someone, he needs to look in the mirror.

The kid wasn't too damn smart either....I mean, it wasn't like his father had success at being an armed robber, so maybe it isn't really the "family business". Hell, if nothing else, the father could have given the son some pointers....or maybe not.

The fact is, the kid is dead because of a choice he made. He would still be alive if he had made better choices. The father said he should have just handed his son the jewelry and let the police handle it from there. I can understand that this was just an emotional response to losing his son, but the fact remains that we need to be doing everything possible to discourage criminal activity; acquiescing to a criminal's demands does not accomplish that. It's unfortunate that it turned out that way, but this should serve as a reminder to people that crime does not pay.

People seem to keep forgetting the pellet gun has the potential to kill you just as dead as a real gun.

If the father has any disgust as he claims, it should be directed only at himself for being such a failure as a parent and role model.

It is an unfortunate end to a very poor choice. It isn't like the employee who shot the kid woke up hoping to shoot someone that day. He/She is going to have to live with that day replaying in their mind. Albeit comforting to know they did it lawfully... it won't calm the emotions immediately.

So I'm supposed to feel bad.. This "troubled kid" made a poor decision and learned the hard way that you don't rob people. And the dad (the same guy who told him it was ok to rob people) has the nerve to say that 1) they should have let him threaten and rob the store; 2) that it was ok because it was only a pellet gun; 3) that his life was worth more than a few pieces of jewelry. This guy is a joke. I'm angry that we have let society get to the point that such an ignorant comment can be made without social outrage.

News Flash! The kid was a low life POS who reaped every seed of the life he had sewn. My heart goes out to the employee who was forced into the position of dealing with the taking of a life, if even in the course of protecting his own.

I'm not sure why so many are sorry about the situation or feel this is unfortunate.

Had the criminal gotten away, how many more people would he commit armed robbery against? How long would it take before he stepped up to a real gun and murdered someone?

He was a criminal. He committed a violent offense. He died. I'm sure, like most of you, I won't have any feelings about this in a couple hours from now.

It is a shame, the kids apparently wasn't working with much from the gene pool. If somebody walks into your place of business carrying a gun and announcing that it's a robbery, determining the caliber of the weapon is probably WAY down the list of priorities. I think he got what he deserved. Maybe Dad shoulda taught him how to play basketball instead of how to rob stores. If ya fail at that you end up with sore knees and not dead.

It wouldn't matter if it had been an unloaded gun or a realistic looking toy gun.

You should feel sorry for anyone that loses their life early as a result of bad decisions. It's a waste. It's a shame. It's sad that it happened.

What you shouldn't feel, is regret. He made his decision. He chose poorly. Drive on.

I will pray for the shooter in this instance. I cannot let the poor choice or lack of good parenting allow the emotional burden this CRIMINAL placed on a LAW-ABIDING CITIZEN go without some recourse, and that is the recourse I have available.

I am sure the father is grieving for the loss of his son (at least most people would). But I think the main reason for his anger is the guilt he has deep in his soul for NOT being the father that he should have been. From what the story has reported, the father had many chances to change the behavior of his son and did not.

As far as I'm concerned, this so called 'father' is the one who disgusts me. He is clearly just another typical lowlife scumbag of society.
Thugs like him always blame everyone else for their own selfish, greedy, violent & bad decisions.

I don't wish death upon anyone, but Good Riddance to very foul smelling rubbish imvho.
Let God sort it out.

Famous family words echoed over and over and over---"HE WAS A GOOD BOY"

Yep! If he had killed someone and then was shot and killed they would still say, "He was a GOOD BOY" and "A product of a broken home." Most parents still love their children even when they do wrong, but to blame others for their failings as parents is wrong. I wonder if the father has a police record?????

The father was just released from jail for armed robbery.....That's why the son was with him since apparently his mother didn't want him either.

I don't feel sorry one bit for this criminal. He was old enough to know that threatening people with a weapon is wrong, and he still made the choice.
