The 1911 returns!

Yes, I saw a report on this a few days ago .....................good.
I was at the range last week, with Glock9x19 and Sig 1911/.45
The 1911 shoots better.

I'm going to give them a day at the range and do a real comparison.

~BEST~

I'm not a single-action, cocked-'n-locked kinda guy, but there's something nostalgic as well as fearsome about the Colt .45 making a comeback. I wonder if that Earth-tone Duracoated one in the pictures is what the Marines ordered? Good lookin' piece if it is. How many of those would $22.5 million buy? Wonder if this country will still be around by the time those hit the surplus market. Link Removed

From the article it does seem as if the 1911 in the picture is the one the Marines ordered, it also says 12,000 of the 200,000 Marines will be getting them. Sounds to me as if they are replacing most of their standard issue M9s with this.

The workers at that plant will certainly be happy to have some more work i am sure :)

Good quick read on a time less firearm. I think the 1911 is superior to the Beretta myself also.

I own both 1911s and M9(92s)... I like them both, they are both reliable, accurate, & good looking handguns.

However, my go-to of choice... the 1911. I can deal with the lower capacity with the 1911... it just shoots so damn well!

I spent 24 years in the Army as a tanker with the M1911 as my standard firearm. When we deployed to Desert Storm, many units had already transitioned to the M9. We still had our M1911s. Way to go Marines.

This does not mean they are making a comeback, they never went away. I was at Quantico last year, 5 yrs ago they spent 3.5mm USD to build a armory for building custom 1911's for MarSoc. Most folks don't realize it but the specops guys have been using .45 since the regular military converted to the 92's. Spec Ops guys have their choice of firearms to accomplish their missions.

Indeed, I've seen a lot of Sig's, HK's, and some kind of 1911(s) while down range being carried by... "operators".
