Texas???

I'm going on a vacation to Texas from Minnesota. I checked to see which states recognize MN carry permits and every state did recognize my carry permit until I got to Texas. I called the DPS in Dallas to see if this was an error. I was told I can keep my handgun in my vehicle, secured, but NOT ON MY PERSON. WOW! So now I must figure out how to secure my gun in side AND still have access to it if needed. Unbelievable!!!

I have a non-resident Arizona permit that covers Texas and New Mexico.
We travel between Az and Wi twice a year.

For me that was the easy way out.

In Texas the weapon does not need to be "secured". It only needs to be "concealed". Cover it with a towel, put it in the glove box or console or even under the seat. Just make sure it is out of sight and you are okay.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess my only concern is if we get out of the car to eat, ect., I will need to secure my gun in the vehicle in case of break-in. That is self-defeating. I suspect the legislature didn't consider that. Interesting!

Howdy Dad,

It does make you wonder what the heck they were thinking. A few years back TX changed their law so that anyone that can legally own a handgun can keep one in their vehicle without a permit.

I was in TX for Thanksgiving and my Niece's BF had the driver's side window broken in his truck the day before. I asked what happened and he said that people were looking for guns. Said it was the latest thing going on around Dallas.

Paul

P.S. You can visit Arkansas because we honor EVERYONE's permit.
