Texas Drone Hunting

Love this. Of course DHS is probably only trying to uncover any vulnerabilities.

"When the Department of Homeland security makes bets with the civilian population, perhaps they shouldn’t offer college students $1000. In Austin, Texas, College students said they would take that bet and they did. Texas College Students hijacked a US Military Predator Drone in mid-air in front of DHS!The University of Texas came into it saying that they not only could do it, but that it had been done before. We have seen the reports from Iran that they used a technique to do what they call “spoofing” to bring down a RQ-170 spy plane of the United States and put it on Display."

It's true the DHS was probably trying to uncover vulnerabilities so they could make the drones more secure, but I do know that hackers are ALWAYS one step ahead of security guys. Especially with wireless communication. Now they just have to not tell DHS next time they hack it!

I didn't see any pix of this. Did they land it or just commandeer it?

It doesn't say anywhere that they took it down, just that they took control of it. I suppose DHS stepped in before they could actually grab it. It did say they did it right in front of them.
But like one of the comments said, "I can take down and take over a drone for less than $10....called 1oz 12ga deer slug, knock down the drone and then rebuild it".
