TERRIBLE decision pending for me...

I had an experience in a former company where someone was fired for bad performance. When someone cleaned out their office they found a bunch of journals where he talked about killing his boss if he ever got fired and was sympathetic to the Columbine kids that did the killing. the company figured out that it was in their best interest to hire an armed guard until things settled down. They also gave a 2-way radio to the boss and the guard for immediate response if needed.

Ive been in a situation like this once. To make a long story short, my mom and I work at the same place and my mom is upper management. My mom fired a nurse for stealing narcottics and the nurse that got fired blamed my mom for having to steal narcottics in the first place and then held a grudge against her for the loss of her job and ruining her life (all lies of course). To add to the situation, this nurse had 2 mortgages to pay for and her husband was unemployed. She was in a very bad situation and very unhappy. A couple of nights later this nurse calls to the place of employment to talk to another nurse and threatend my moms life and mine. I believe she was very capable of following through with her threats and my alert level was sky rocketed to the red level for the longest time. I did not have a gun or cpl at the time, but I did have a knife and I promised myself I would not be a victim. Its pretty bad when you cant feel safe at your place of employment, or even at home.

I would carry. DISCREETLY. If I had to stop an attack, I would. Depending on your state, you could defend yourself in court if charges were brought.

Best of luck to you.

UPDATE many of you requested to be keep informed about this situation. Thankfully it has been quiet. Truthfully; this happens to be my first 5 day work week since I last posted on this thread as I had some time off with vacations, holidays and the like. I decided if I wasn't at work I wouldn't worry about it as much.

Another interesting development that has kept me thinking about my options has happened too though. Quite a ways above I posted where I shared with 2 supervisors that I am legally licensed to carry. The supervisor that was not in favor of granting me permission to carry at work retired at the end of June. That leaves only one person that should know I have a carry permit and she was the one being threatened who didn't seem to mind the thought of me carrying to work. I have seen no signs of anyone attempting to see if I'm carrying. This all combines to leave me in a spot where if I decided to start carrying to work I could probably get away with it. I should probably order J hooks for my crossbreed first though.

As quiet as this situation has gotten though I may not really need to. We were told that this person had warrants out for their arrest; maybe the "boys in blue" have already collared him. Wouldn't that be just dandy...

If you've consulted the employees/higher ups and nothing was done, then you'd have to look inside and make a decision. Above all, saving a life is paramount. You seem to have been put in a very difficult position. If you can justify the possible repercussions, live with your decision the best you can and feel good about it.
