Taurus Judge Public Defender for CC

Does anyone carry a Taurus Judge? For self defense, I like the versatility of a .45 long colt or a .410 shotgun round. However, it is a fairly big revolver. If anyone does carry, how do you carry and what ammo do you use in it?

that would be tough. for smaller person nearly impossible. mid to large person maybe could do shoulder holster. extra large, belly rig but just not sure. I would load the first 1 or 2 rounds with long colt followed by the .410. Just throwing that out there. never thought about it before. Seems like a better weapon for around the home.

It's a big revolver......it's also an ineffective revolver compared to a conventional one. Poor performance from both the .410 and .45LC. You'd be much better off buying a dedicated revolver and not a gimmicky "fun" gun.

Using a Judge as a CC handgun is like using you sister as a prom date. You could, but you really shouldn't. Also, the first time you and your buddies find out about it you will never hear the end of it.

The judge is very heavy to carry. Very lethel 410 000 buck. One shot 4 holes. I load my own 45 longs 230 gr hornadys. The 45's shoot very nice. I would not want to be the recipient of a 410 000 buck. Depending on distance you may hit more than the intended party.

If you want to carry something with LOTS of power for a pistol (but has an even bigger question of concealability), Try an ak47 pistol (google "draco pistol") 7.62 x .39 is quite potent a round, beats most ANY other pistol rounds!! You (as long as your state doesnt limit magazine size) could even use a 100 rd drum magazine! Might get some strange looks walking around in a trench coat all the time though, lol

The public defender is the shorter barrel version and according to a buddy, it is a great CC gun with an IWB holster.

I havent ever carried one, but I have handled a few in Gun stores... They really arent THAT much bigger than a 3 or 4 inch .357... Although, they would be considerably heavier... A good belt and holster would really be needed, unlike some smaller weapons where you can get away with a little less quality/stiffness.

In the "silly pistols on rifle actions" department, there was a company written up in Combat Handguns (I think) not long ago, that one-upped both the AR pistols and the Draco. They cut down a .308 MBR to make a .308 pistol - which weighs more than some of my rifles.

If anyone is seriously thinking of carrying a .410 revolver for defense, please, PLEASE go read the penetration tests at the boxotruth.com and wise up. You wouldn't think of hunting grouse with a 3 or 4 inch barreled .410 shotgun. I'm speaking as one who was building shot loads for a 3 inch .44 Special 35 years ago, and using them on starlings - or trying to.

Just get a nice .44 or .45 revolver, if that's your thing.
