Taurus 380

I was wondering if anyone carries or has shot the Taurus 738 tcp .380? and if so what do you think about it?
I carry this gun and like it very much, I know it's small but it's comfortable and shoots nice. I am considering going to a larger gun though and keep this one as a b/u.
I've put 200+ rounds through it and not one problem.

I carry a tcp as a b/u and sometimes when I can't carry my glock I like it it shoots well enough.

I did end up havin to polish my feed ramp to get rounds to chamber, but other than that haven't had any other problems.

If your looking for a good pocket holster I use uncle mike size 3 fits perfect

i use this as my primary depending on what i'm wearing/able to conceal. no issues w/ it so far. also bought the extended mag mod for it too. gives you an extra round in the mag and now i can get a full grip on it.

My wife had this gun but decided to trade it solely due to the small size which did not fit her hand well. That being said, the gun was a fine shooter and we had no problems what so ever with quality amunition. I would recommend the grip extension for a better grip from our experiences but its all about what fits you the best.

I bought one as my first foray into concealed carry. I got it used at a local shop. I don't plan on keeping it. Since it was used I have no idea how many rounds were fired through it before I got it. I shot about 130 rounds through it: S&B, American Eagle, Winchester white box, and a few Hornady hollow points. I experienced 2 Fail To Ejects with the Winchester. Then I fired close to 100 more rounds of more Winchester, Federal, and more Hornadys. This time I had about 6-8 FTEs. I just can't carry a gun full time that I can't rely on.

I plan to sell it in a few weeks and get a Ruger SR9c. I've researched the Ruger extensively and believe it will be a reliable EDC.

I just purchased a TCL 380 and haven't even **** it yet but have a question. When I lock my slide back the slide release is extremely difficult to press. I am not weak yet it is almost impossible to release the slide. Anyone else with this problem? Will it get easier as it gets broken in?

My daughter recently purchased a TCP .380, mainly because she tried our Ruger LCP's and didn't like them as well. The gun performed OK but had a few FTE's at first (using cheaper target ammo). She found the gun to be extremely dirty when she cleaned it after less than 100 rounds. What I have experienced with several guns including rifles, shotguns, and black powder guns, is that some manufacturers will pack them in so much cosmoline (sp?) protectant grease that they will gum up fast if not cleaned properly before firing (and let's all admit: we often can't wait to fire a new gun and often skip that first cleaning). Some will cringe at this but I have often put new guns into a hot soapy bath to get rid of that crap, dried all the parts thoroughly, lubed everything well, and have had NO problems. Long story short the TCP is performing like a champ now. I have just picked up some really cheap Russian ammo we are going to try in all the .380's and see what that does. For the price the TCP is a great gun.

Have heard others say this as well. I do not use the slide release on any pistol In own, including the TCP, so I cannot say. You might want to look at the discussions of it on the taurusarmed forums.

It is the TulAmmo............I figured for $10 a box (maybe $11) it was worth a try. I have 4 different .380's to try it in and I have no doubt for that kind of money that it is not top shelf stuff but I am willing to try anything at least once. Thanks for the heads up.

We just tried the TulAmmo.......we put 100 rounds through our two Ruger LCP's.......yup, it's crap. We had several jams, FTE's, one miss fire, and it did dirty the guns up considerably. O well at least I can say we tried it. I still have some 9MM and .40S&W to try yet.

Are you trying to release it with the mag empty or loaded? it is a bunch easyer with a loaded mag, ether way it does get easyer with time, my wife and I each carry one for a backup, took a few hundred rds before I was comfortable carrying them, even for back up, but now we carry them faithfully

For those talking about the FTE's with the Taurus let me say this. I have a P3AT that has never had a FTE and as long as I keep it lubed it performs perfectly. If it gets dry it will hang on trying to chamber a round and you can push slightly on the slide to get it to chamber. As long as it has oil it is 100% reliable. My wife took if so I had to find a replacement. I bought a Sig P238, supposedly top notch highly rated etc. Out of the 200 or so rounds I have put through it I have had probably 50 FTE's. I have tried six different types of ammo and three different mags. Nothing worked and right now Sig has it back. So if you have a problem with one gun doesn't necessarily mean that all of that model are bad or good. There are exceptions.

On the other hand my new FNX-9 eats everything I throw in it. About 400 rounds and not one single problem other than finding the money to buy more ammo. Not only does it eat anything you feed it the 3-17 round mags seem always be starving and gulp it down too fast.

Carry TCP 738 in a Wallet Holster

I carry with the Holsterpro shoot through wallet holster. Very easy to carry and the holster gives you a lot more to grip and makes shooting the very small gun easier. I molded the back part of the holster by wetting it and molding it to the grip. I also made one myself that I like better it lets you access the slide release and magazine release easier. I just bought a Taurus slim 709 and use a Versacarry clip holster with it. The great thing about that is it works with the TCP too. And I hope to add a laser sight and it doesn't affect the Versacarry so I don't have to buy another holster. For me these two setups cover just about any carry situation I need.

Wouldn't cringe at that cleaning method at all, but they make ultrasonic cleaners that you can dip your firearm in that are designed specifically for handguns. You may want to check them out. Sometimes the soap can leave a residue that the ultrasonic cleaner won't.
