Taser or pepper spray

Which do you think is more effective defense for a runner? I'd love to conceal and carry on a run but I don't think I could conceal or run very well with a gun.

Do you think pepper spray is enough? What about holding or carrying a taser?

Thanks for your opinions.

You can always get a concealed carry shirt with a removable kydex trigger guard piece, and you should be good-to-go.

A Taser is no different in size of a gun if it's a Taser X26, and should also be carried as one.

OC is horrible stuff if you don't have the training and exposure to it. I have yet to use it on someone, and I would like to keep it that way forever. Heaven forbid I get that stuff on me because of a change of wind direction, or it doesn't work on the person because they are mentally derange or on drugs.

I want a Taser! But I have mace (not pepper spray). I'm a mom of three and I travel quiet a bit without my husband, so mace is easy and I can afford to have more than one: one in the diaper bag, purse, pocket on the side of the driver's door, stroller, any extra little pocket. So the price is worth the convenience and availability. It is also light and easy to conceal (I have one that looks like a lipstick container for a small cocktail purse, which would also be easy to carry on a run).
However, I think there are benefits to a taser, but some of them are kind of bulky (definitely lighter and easy than a gun).
Link Removed There is a good picture that helps show the differences if you were in a threatening situation. I thought the picture was good.

Pepper spray is usually 'very effective' but you must always be mindful of the winds direction if it's a fairly windy day. I always try to carry pepper spray with me, especially when I'm carrying my sidearm. It just makes good sense to me. Why even consider drawing a handgun if pepper spray would be more suitable in a particular given situation, Example; (An unarmed nutjob trying to punch you).
If you are really considering carrying a tazer while you are running, then you might as well just carry a small, lightweight revolver like the Ruger LCR or a small 380 auto like the Ruger LCP instead.
There's not really any problem with utilizing a small-medium sized fanny pack on your runs. It may take a little getting used to, but in time I think that you will be happy that you did i.m.o.
-Good Luck-

I would think something like a S&W 442 or a G26 would be lite enough in a rig like this that it wouldn't interfere with running.

go with an LCP or the SIG.380 or a diamondback .380. our govener rick perry carried a LCP and used it while jogging last year. worked for him should work for you.

good luck!

A keychain canister of Sabre, which uses a balistic stream, is the way to go for me. Little chance of blow-back, & that stuff is nasty.

YES! Exactly what he said!!!! If it came down to pepper spray or a taser I would have to say pepper spray never killed anyone so I would opt for the pepper spray.

I need to emphasize that pepper spray will not effectively work against someone who is mentally disturbed in the clinical sense, on drugs, or has lots of exposure to it - I have seen this first hand. In my experience, Tasers will work on these people.

Too much "gun talk". It seemed obvious to me from the getgo, that maas is looking for something that does not include a pound of metal. Leaving aside the obvious "what if", sometimes it can make life a lot easier to appreciate your surroundings and your environment and make a choice that does not require a pound of metal and its bulk and have something that will be better than a rock. Stun gun, taser (certainly lighter and easier to carry than a gun) and pepper spray or bear spray (larger can with very potent stream at distance and easy to attach to a loop or in pocket) seem to be the answer. To specifically answer the question, I would think a spray is relatively cheap, light and effective--get one that has a stream not a mist--as said before--wind can work against you.

TASER does not always work on angel dusters.
Sometimes bullets don't work on dusters.
That little Sabre OC or the Kimber pepper blaster
would be a good first option, but I wouldn't be without a gun.

Just fall to the ground, do the crappie flop, roll your eyes back and speak in some weird "tongue". Hell, the BG might call 911 to get you some help! j/k I would think against an armed BG that has you at gunpoint, you are pretty much too late. You might get the chance if something distracts him but who knows. Hopefully you will never be in that situation. A good taser makes a good deterrent, so does the spray. Find a way to carry what you prefer. There are many ways and many smaller guns that would fit the situation.

I would think Tasers would work fine against angel dusters. As long as your Taser fires and both probes hit and get a good spread and the copper wires don't break or come loose from the probes, the Taser is going to do it's job and scramble their system. They can be high as a kite but the neuromuscular effect is going to take place regardless. Rodney King was dusted up and he still went down when the LAPD hit him with the Tasers. He got back up when they finished cycling but while they were firing he was out of the fight. The civilian model that Taser sells, the C2, cycles for 30 seconds. Plenty of time for you to put it down and make a nice get away. The only drawback may be the price. you can get a can of pepper spray for abou $15. A Taser is going to set you back about $200. There's also the requirement to register it with Taser International and have them run a back ground check on you (another $10 paid directly to Taser)before they will even give you the code to activate your C2.

Actually the Taser X26 is restricted to LEOs by Taser. Now you can get the civilian model, the Taser C2 at Acadamy, Cabela's, Bass Pro and other places. I have one myself. To use it you still have to register it with Taser International and wait on them to do the criminal background check then give you the code to activate it. Instead of looking like a pistol, the C2 looks to me like a phaser from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Here's what mine looked like when I got it home.

Belt holsters can be found with a simple Google search. Most look like cellphone cases.

If I can jog with a Glock 19 in a fanny pack then anybody else should be able to manage something like a Kel Tec P32. Seriously.

That and a small can of Saber Red will get you by. I would strongly advise to pass on the Taser.

My vote is for a C2 Taser instead of pepper spray. I carry both a C2 and a G23 and like having a non-lethal option. Pepper spray is problematic indoors, and users inadvertently touch their face/eyes after use. For the OP and jogging, try a subcompact gun and a belly band like from PistolWear.com.

well, ive used both on the job. both are great tools.and have different applications. it all depends. in confined space, a taser, or a gun. outside,id opt for the spray, only if the wind was right, theTASER has a deterring affect on most people, especiall if it has a laser on it. hope this helped you out.
