Target Practice on Private Property

I have about 80 acres, and have set up a shooting Range. I have built an 8 foot berm behind Targets and the berm tapers down, about 100 yards from where i have targets set up. About an hour into our Target practice, 4 Sheriff's vehicles stopped about a half a mile or closer. Intimidation? They never entered my property, but made it clear they were there. I have 5 neighbors within 10 miles, and 4 of them were there? Harrassment is the only conclusion i can come to?
 
Maybe somebody called 911 because they heard gunfire. Might not have even been a neighbor, just somebody driving by. The sheriffs responded appropriately - they found the scene of the gunfire, noticed nothing illegal or dangerous happening, didn't want to bother you about anything, signed off the call and went about the rest of their day.

Why the immediate conclusion they were up to "no good"?
 
Your house your prop taxes the hell with the rest .i cant stand cops an ppl like that ..they always come out an bust our chops when we are duck hunting in our swamp we pay for .last time they got told to fn leave now .
 
The LEO's did not bust the OP's chops for doing anything. They saw nothing of interest and moved on.

In fact, there is no evidence presented in the OP to suggest that the LEO's presence had anything at all to do with the target shooting activity.

Thanks for all your responses...i live in Sout East Ks and the closest town (if you can call them a town) is over 25 miles away. I live in an unincorporated area that is in or around 4 County's. I live in one, neibor across the street lives in County 2, the neighbors 4 houses down live in County 3 and my neighbor that lives at the end of the paved road lives in County 4.

Sounds to me like it was probably a family reunion.
 
Maybe the deputies saw all the fun you were having and wanted to join in but the mean ole' sheriff wouldn't let them.

Not sure where the harassment is. Can police not stop their vehicles on the side of the road anymore?

Man I can't wait for STHF. 911 will so jammed up with "I heard gunshots" calls everyone's head will be spinning and the poor libtard sissies will be wetting themselves, hiding in closets and crying for mama

Let's see, someone reports multiple gunshots, police arrive, find the source, have a little confab and decide you're doing nothing wrong.

I dont care where they park for a donught break...thing is the Police NEVER come down the county road i live on? All jokes aside, Private property, safe Range to shoot and no reason to park 25 miles from their juristiction? I really dotnt care where they take their breaks, i do care that they seemed to be trying to intimidate my friends and i. If we need their asst we have their number...

Guess what, they don't have to ask permission where they park their vehicles, they are on a business call "gun shots" and they are required to investigate the allegations, nothing was found criminally so they moved on, never once did they come to you or "harass" you!

Take your anti-cop mentality and move on!!!!
 
I have some friends that were shooting full autos on private property (300 acres). They had 3 cop cars come flying in the open gate and the cops calmly (yes really calmly not sarcastic calmly) asked them to see the papers for them. After they showed them the papers the owner of the guns asked the cops if they wanted to shoot them. After dumping multiple magazines down range the cops explained that a neighbor (approx 5 miles away) heard the full auto shooting and called.
After that they never had any cops show up out there again when they shoot full autos. Its not normally the cops that are bad, its the people that call them not knowing what you are doing it perfectly legal.
 
I wouldn't have felt very comfortable with all that attention being paid to me either. It could have been worse. I was once surrounded by half a dozen cop cars and they all had their guns aimed at me.

My guess is that your problem is with the neighbors. Go talk to the cops and find out who filed the complaints. Invite them over one weekend, have a barbecue, and while they are there ask them if they want to do some shooting. You might want want to include one or two of the cops as well. If you can't beat 'em, get 'em to join you. However you accomplish it, letting them get to know you will go a long way to reducing the stress in the community. A really nice guy with a range is far less distressing than some angry old dude that is always shooting. It might not help but you might make a friend or two out of the deal.

What ever you decide on I strongly recommend that you appear friendly, especially if you don't feel it at the time. If they also perceive you as an angry individual they may decide to try to shut down your range. Even if you win you could wind up spending many thousands of dollars fending them off not to mention all the wasted time that you could be spending on the range. If you say that you shouldn't have to play politics you are right. You are likely to spend less time and money if you are a little more politic with your neighbors. Remember the old saying about an armed society being a polite society. Even if run into them on the street and they try to start an argument be polite, state your case, and if they get rude excuse yourself and leave.

I have dreamed of a range on my own property, yours really sounds sweet.
