It is very hard to ignore the images out of Syria splashing onto out Television Screens. My Heart goes out to the children who are suffering in many ways.
That emotional response speaks to me in hoping that we, the United States of America will do something.
And then,
I think about the what, where, when, why, how... And I think No. This is not our war, it is not threatening American security so far as the released intel would suggest.
We may be better off as a nation if we let this work itself out in what ever way may come.

I believe the issue in Syria is there are no good guys. Both sides are evil extremists with the everyday citizens caught in the middle. I think if we as a country do anything there, it will come back and bite us bad later down the road.

Stan, Your point has a major point.

Many Americans are "Everyday Citizens". They give no support to either side. When the time comes and there is conflict they are caught in the middle with no opinion and no side to call their own.

"If your not with us, your against Us" No middle ground to be had.

Actually, the only thing that doesn't matter is what I think about whether or not the US gets involved. What does matter is what God thinks about whether or not the US gets involved. Considering our long history in the Middle East, and its truly deplorable failure rate at accomplishing anything for the people there, I'm not optimistic about supporting more of the same. Add to our failures in Middle Eastern countries that we have nearly completely abandoned Israel, and I think supporting more involvement in Syria may well be inviting God's wrath on one's soul. Not something I'm likely to volunteer for, but in the smaller scheme of things, none of our so-called "leaders" care a wit what you or I think about it. What I think about it will only matter to God in the end.

My best friend is a "casual" Believer. I don't mean that as a knock on him, it's just that he believes what his parents and grandparents instilled in him. Doesn't question a single aspect of it. One day he expressed something very similar to what you say above, saying that man can have no idea whatsoever when Jesus will return, or when the Rapture will happen etc. I was at his house when he said it and had my laptop with me, so I asked if he would be willing to read something about that issue. I was going to open one of Ringo's posts from several months ago that I bookmarked because it helps me know where to look for answers, and I knew it would come in handy if I ever wanted to show a path to better understanding for my wife or other friends at some point. Didn't matter though, because my friend just said, "The Bible is as clear as it can be on that question. No man knows when it's coming. You don't need to show me nothin'."

The important thing is that you Believe and are faithful. But you can know a reliable approximation of timing. The post I was going to open for my friend is here. Being as Ringo is very prolific and consistent, there are many others from which to choose that may be more specific than that one is, but the time approximation aspect of prophecy is there if you're interested.

The cost of this operation in dollars and human lives are worth the investment to Obama if he can redirect the dialog. Imagine being willing to commit your nation to a war to cover the despicable acts that have been committed during your term in office.
