Has anyone read or heard about the 'suggestion' by Swampscott elected selectman Barry Greenfield to allow police to enter any home without a warrant to check if the weapons are properly stored? Any time of day (or night) with no prior notice. I read it in Shotgun News. I guess we'll have to wait and see what becomes of it. Anyone here from there? Keep us up to snuff.

Oh well, It still seemed to be a good topic of interest no matter what state one is from. Those Mass. people must read this thread also. Also instead of by state more would have the chance to weigh in who otherwise wouldn't check the Mass. thread.

I have family that lives in swampscott and my uncle is an avid hunter( has several rifles, shotguns, and muzzleloaders) upon reading this thread i called him and he was unaware of anything going on but he is going to look into it. Hes a firefighter as well and very friendly with local pd so hes going to look into it. I will post anu updates asap to keep everyone informed.

In NY state, "safely stored" just means locked IF there is someone living in the household who is ineligible to possess a gun for any reason - age, arrest record, coo coo, whatever.

I get the impression Mass could teach NY a thing or two about being a nanny state...or about tyranny, for that matter.

I guess the local rags don't want to pick up on it. So much for a free press. This sort of quackery can happen anywhere, as it so often does. Looking forward to any updates you can provide. Thanks!

Doubtful. A local selectman doesn't have the power to order police to enter anyone's home without a warrant. There is a fourth amendment and the local hacks may not violate it.

Thanks for the info. But what started as a suggestion could take root in the future. Just look at all the draconian firearm laws on the books today. That's how they got started. Glad to see it got deep 6'd.
No it can't. SCOTUS ruled on this issue in Heller. It's already been determined unconstitutional.

All of the un-Constitutional gun laws we have on the books now have been backed in some way, shape, or form. Just because today the SCOTUS says uh-uh, doesn't mean in the future they won't say, go ahead.

I'm sorry but "shall not be infringed" is fairly easy to comprehend unless you are a politician or wear a black robe.

Age has nothing to do with safe storage in NY. They have talked about it but it is not part of unSafe Act.
This is direct copy from the unSafe Act Page:

Q: When am I required to safely store my gun?
A: You are required to safely store your gun if you live with someone who has been convicted of a felony or domestic violence crime, has been involuntarily committed, or is currently under an order of protection.
