SW sigma 9mm issues

My daughter has a SW sigma 9mm. when she first got it it shot pretty well, ie, trigger pull. Here lately it doesn't pull smooth. I'm trying to figure out what the problem might be. I'm thinking about taking it to a gun smith but I live here in Hot Springs, AR. and don't know of any place to take it. Does any body out there have any ideas?

The Sigma has a very hard trigger pull to start with. There is a simple trigger job that removes two extra springs and brings the trigger down to about 6#. It made my .40 a LOT easier to control. Check youtube for the vid. I did mine, but would recommend geting a pro to do it if you aren't comfortable with it.

Going from a good trigger pull to a bad one is the result of an internal damage or debris. Tear the gun down and give it a good cleaning and concentrate on on the trigger group with a pressurized spray cleaner like Birchwood Casey Gun Scrubber. Then use a quality lithium grease on the moving parts. If that doesn't solve it, then the gun needs to be taken down further and checked for internal damage.

The Sigma is a low end S&W. Probably not worth the money you would spend at a gunsmith. You might be better of saving that cash for a better firearm.

The Sigma is not the best type of semi auto S&W makes, its a ok gun but if you paid much more than $250-300 dollars you got screwed, I would advise tradeing it in on a Glock or Springfield XD, you will have to pay some to boot, but you will end up with a much better quality weapon, if that is not a option, hunt online for a disassembly/cleaning video, and just follow step by step, you may even find a video for a trigger job, I'm saying this mainly because a good gunsmith would probably get $100-150 for a inspection, cleaning, and trigger job, and the gun is just not worth putting that kind of money in, my best advice would be to cut your losses, trade it in and get a good quality gun

Just a quick note and a thank you for all the help. I did the trigger mod as recommended, and the results were awesome. The trigger pull dropped drastically, it became smooth and with no ill effects. Thanks again for the help.

Good for you but I wouldn't trust that gun for SD. I just removed the torsion (pigtail) spring and greased the sear assembly on my Sigma 9mm and the trigger's good. I left the sear springs in so they'll reset every time.

The Sigma is proof that even a gun maker like S&W can produce a stinker. I'd never trust my life to one. They have a terrible reputation. If you want a good, comfortable, relatively inexpensive 9MM I'd say ditch the Sigma and go with a Ruger SR9C. They can be had for about $399 new and $300-$325 used. If you've got $500 to spend then I'd go with Rocketgeezer's advice and look into a Glock, Springfield, and S&W M&P.

No, I like mine. Over 1200 rounds without a hiccup.

Furthermore the gun is so alike a glock that S&W had to settle with glock out of court to keep making it. It is essentially the poor man's glock, for me it was a no brainer...mainly because I'm young and poor haha.

Very true, the first generation sigma's are the ones which had problems. The current Sigma is an excellent value in a low cost sidearm.
