SW Governor

I did a search and did not find any thread on the governor.

I'm getting ready to buy another gun and been looking at this for a few months. I haven't found one at the range or gun store. Does anyone own this gun or know anything bad about it.

Google search "SW Governor review".

I've read quite a bit about the Gov and the Taurus Judge as well. The general consensus is that they're pistols that do 2 things - neither particulary well. It's little more than a gimmick. If you're getting this pistol for personal protection, I'd advise you to get something else...something that does one thing very well like shoot a 9mm slug, a .45 slug, etc. If you're buying it to have a great time shooting pumpkins, water jugs, clay pigeons, etc., then by all means pick one up.

this will be just for shooting at the range. I already have a few that will work for protection.

I played with one at the range a month ago. Shot all 3 flavors of ammo. A lot of fun and very easy to control. My accuracy was very good. .45 acp and .45 colt both shot nice tight patterns. The 410 not so much. Firearm appeared well made.

If I were going to carry it, I'd be tempted to mix the ammo, start with the 410 to catch their attention followed by the .45 to get serious.

I have a Judge, I wish it could shoot 45ACP. Much cheaper than 410 or LC. Other than that it is a fun gun to shoot.

I went by a local gun shop in the Ft Laud area to order the Governor. I was not happy with the owners the sales person was great. They not only wanted me to pay MSRP but they also added a $25 shipping change. Needless to say they will not be getting by business. I found the gun a few hundred miles away near another home we own, so I will be going to check on the other house and come home with the Governor. The store in central Florida put the gun on hold until Monday without me even putting down a deposit.

I'm the new owner of a SW Governor, picked it up tonight. Thanks Gander Mountain for the great service in Ocala Florida.

Shooting 410 shells in a handgun is definately a blast. Say what you want about the Gov. or Judge, but I would not want to be on the business end of either at close range. Shot a cantalope at 15' last summer, & that convinced me. Set up a gal. milk jug & see what the 45 LC does to it. All in all an awesome piece. Enjoy your new toy, I do.

The Judge(s) are pretty popular in the Mojave as a snake gun (with .410 loads). Carried on the hip with a CCW in a pocket is the most common approach.

(For those who may not know, the Mojave Green Rattlesnake is very territorial and aggressive. It's 7% more poisonous than a diamondback.)
