Hello all,
I would like begin by thanking you for reading this thread. I do apologize for the length of the post but it may be worth your time.

I have an idea for a non profit/scholarship/charity (which ever is most appropriate) program for for our disabled veterans.

I would like as many opinions as I can get...

Support our troops - Give them the gift of a free/further discounted Carry Concealed License.

The concept:

Students would be given the option to donate a min of $1 with no maximum limit.
Donations would be put into a fund to be used initially for disabled veterans helping them pay in whole or in part for the course and the license fees of the state.

IF this program succeeds we would then open this up to the spouses of our fallen soldiers.

The only way I can think of for this to work would be to have instructors (including myself) donate the course with a possible reimbursement (that is if this program generates enough funds to do so) to the instructors for the cost of materials.


How a applicant would get the money:
1. Take a course from a participating instructor.
2. Apply and receive their concealed carry.
3. Fill out the application for reimbursement. With a copy of their receipts,CWL DL or other information proving their qualifications.

Problems:
I polled my students and they would be willing to do this, but i am not sure how to start.

I would need other instructors, a lawyer and/or someone who has experience in setting up this type of program and help us succeed. All of which would have to be willing to donate some of their time to supporting our Military.
This can not and will not be a scam I want this to go national at some point once we get this setup.

PLEASE discuss this below and if your would be interested in taking part in supporting this program.

If you have read this entire post that means you care about this to some extent or another and I would like thank you for your time and for caring just as much about our Military as I do.
 
Why don't you contact the Wounded Warriors Foundation and see if they would sponsor your idea or help with the logistics. This could be a big project. I'm interested.

That's great info I got excited after seeing two responses so far, I have already sent an email to the fundraising division and am hoping that many more people are interested in this.

I think contacting the Wounded Warrior project is a good idea. I'd like to hear from disabled vets as to whether or not they would want this.

Speaking as a vet myself (but thankfully not disabled), my gut reaction is "Thanks, but no thanks, I can buy my own damn LTC." Maybe other vets or disabled vets would feel differently...but my reaction gave me enough pause that I felt I ought to mention the other side of it.
 
This is a fantastic idea. If it is successful, in addition to surviving spouses, it could be later spread to all honorably discharged veterans (perhaps at a discount, not free) service. With employment as it is today, not all recently discharged vets may be able to afford this plus running a houshold. Count me in for support.

well one thing about it is that the way the OP stated it would be a pay first and then reimbursed for it. The program would be out there and compleatly optional. I don't think that this is supposed to cause the qualifying vets to think that they couldn't afford it. It is more of a heart felt thanks for what they have done and sacrificed for out great nation. I would like to help out as my way to thank the soldiers and their families for their sacrifices.

Phillip has point in that some might be offended. However ramrunne hit the nail on the head. It would be a heartfelt thank you. I have never served for our country, but I have a great amount of thanks and praise for those that have. A customer of minemserved in ww2 when I thanked him for serving our country, he replied "Dont thank me i did not do anything special, thank the ones who never made it home they are the real heroes."

I have always had been thankful for those that have died, beed injured/disabled, and for those that also made it home. I would love to eventually expand on this even further.
 
I would donate to this kind of thing, we owe so much to the men and women of are armed forces, and also agree, they should go through the process, obtain the CCW,CHL,LTC, or how ever the state calls it in there state, Same laws should apply
 
I've been an advocate for a while of providing an easier route to CCW for active duty and veterans. In particular in the case of active duty, there have obviously been those cases we all know of where they have been targeted specifically because they're serving (thinking Muslim attacks for one), and need to be able to protect themselves. It's one way too, to extend the benefits to those who qualify for the service they've given.
 
Again - as a vet, I want to emphasize that I know where this is coming from, and it is a good place. Your gratitude is awesome, and always appreciated. :)
 
Fundraising -- is easy if you know how. Having to host a convention and no experience of anything but my own interests, it is not a job for one. But I am able to do it with very little help. If you have a 501c(3)it is easy to write companies and ask for donations and look for sponsorships, whether short or long term. And make sure that you have in your webpage a separate area for donors and sponsors by way of thanking them for their time and logistics.

That all great info, I want to thank everyone for keeping this topic going. This is something i have no experience with setting up. So all the help and support i can get is greatly appreciated.

A special thanks to Rabbitcreekok for working with me on some background work with this as well.
