summer printing

How bad is printing?

This will be my first summer as a ccw and I expect that I'll be occassionaly printing in the summer shirts. My p229 is no micro.

Should I expect a fuss if I'm seen printing?

In MN i am lucky to not have to worry about. It my first summer also and i think i might just take up oc a little more often.

If you think of it as akin to walking around in public with your fly open then you will learn not to do it in the first place .

I have a CCW and always conceal, but here in Delaware, we also have open carry so printing isn't a real concern for me.

It would seem it depends on where you live. I open carry and receive almost no fuss all.

rotflmbo! great analogy
i live in florida so i understand the concern about that as well ....perhaps we need a fashion designer and a seamstress and we can create our own summer fashions 'created to conceal' inc. i can see that happening
but in the meantime perhaps looser longer hanging tops and baggier style pant but i also love wearing as elastic banded skirt which will have to find an alternate carry and the fanny pack seems to be my best option for that kind of dress so when i get some gear i will try on different ways to what works for me
try out different ways till ya find something work for you but don't leave home with your 'zipper down' so to speak lolz
be safe keep covered :)

It would help to know where you're from. In Texas, the law says, "... intentional printing..." is a violation. That could be subject to a bad interpretation by the one who sees the 'printing' or the officer who is called to check you out.
In the summer, I'm always wearing shorts and a T-shirt. Here in West Texas we have a problem with wind. My little Bersa sometimes will be outlined under my T-shirt by a strong wind blowing against me. Therefore, I keep a net-style hunting vest in my truck. When I have to walk across a parking lot in the wind I put it on, and it helps keep it concealed.
Concealed means concealed.
Oh yeah... I'm old, but it's still embarrassing to have my fly open. :o)
Just my .02.
Uncle Al

Some States have a hissy-fit if one "prints" & others (with open carry mainly) don't seem to care. What matters is what the law is where you are standing wihle you are printing.

Folks seem to have all sorts of stuff hanging about their persons & most people aren't going to even notice another indistinct buldge.

If someone other than a LEO asks what that lump is, just say it's a temporary device you'd rather not talk about (you do take it off to sleep don't you).

The net-vest sounds like a good idea to throw over a "clingy" cover garmet. "Safety Yellow" or blaze orange will likely atract attention to your ENTIRE torso and the indistinct lump beneath the vest netting will not be nearly as likely to be seen.

I agree with Uncle Al...it would help if we know where you are from so the replies you will get will be more appropriate than us guessing. Every state has its own laws and rules on printing and on carrying.

I have a Sneaky Pete holster for my LCP. Its right out in the open but no one knows what it is. I mean no one has any idea its a gun. If I needed it there's no fumbling with clothes.

Thanks for giving me the idea...It will accompany my video camera holder on the other side without anyone knowing it is not a camera gear or anything else. I will look more fully rigged.

Just buy better shirts for concealing and you wont have to worry.

Thank you Desert. This is not rocket science. You use your common sense and wear clothes that when you look in a mirror with an attitude that you do not know you have a firearm, does not stand out as an obvious carry---period/end of story. No one is requiring you to wear the equivalent of a "knight in shining armor" to hide your firearm--it is just a reasonable effort to conceal and if you cannot figure that out---yada yada yada.

Of course, printing is something we consider when choosing a holster, our clothes, etc. However, in my experience, I'm usually the only one who ever really knows that I'm printing. With the explosion of cell phone holsters and other such electronics that people wear on their belt, most just don't realize what you actually have going on under there.

One would have to be rather skilled to know that you have a firearm that prints on a loosely fitted shirt. Now, if you are wearing a tight shirt, that is a different story.

I usually carry a .40 caliber Glock 23 with a Sig Sauer P238 (small .380) or a S&W 637 (snub nose .38 special) as a back up. There are times because of the concern of printing, that I just carry the P238... but I have a couple of extra mags tucked away too.

It's going to come down to what you feel comfortable carrying and what clothes you feel comfortable wearing with it.

I'm from Mississippi and they will take you to jail and take your pistol if you are caught OC.

So you can provide examples of this happening? Miss. Code §§ 97-37-1 & § 45-9-101 operate together to ban carriage of a handgun "concealed in whole or in part" unless the carrier is inside a motor vehicle or possesses a License to Carry a Concealed Pistol or Revolver. As the Mississippi courts have said that a handgun in a holster is concealed in part, a License to Carry a Concealed Pistol or Revolver is required to openly carry a handgun in a holster in Mississippi. If you have a License to Carry a Concealed Pistol or Revolver, open carry in Mississippi is perfectly legal both in statute and as declared by the courts in case law. Exactly what statute violation would they charge you with?

I think it is a fair assumption that gun owners may too quickly assume that others know they are carrying a concealed firearm, and not some other item. It's good to be mindful of concealment issues, but short of getting a short riiped off one's body, chances are the weapon will remain concealed.

Absolutely correct. This issue is about making a "mountain out of a mole hill". You put the firearm under your shirt or in your pants or pants pocket or under your arm or whatever--it is covered with reasonable clothing it is concealed. Period.

I wear a button up over shirt in the summer. Normaly open unless the wind gets bad enough to blow it open. I buy them in 2x tall so they can cover my full size M&P.
