Suggestions from a Gun Range

My gun range has a paper they hand out to people who say they are new to guns and want to buy a first gun. I might say I had some input on this but not a lot.

DEAR NEW GUN BUYER

I know this is a whole new world to you, so let me make some recommendations to you as far as buying a new first gun.

First of all, you need to look at and handle guns that appeal to you so you can see how they fit your hand.
You can do this at gun shops and also online (of course online you can not handle them). You might also watch videos online showing the shooting of the gun and also read reviews of them.

While doing this remember that to start out with a .22 handgun is the easiest to learn to shoot with as it has basically no recoil. Also decide whether the semi-auto handgun or the revolver appeals to you.
Semi-auto usually offers more rounds, but shooting it with a weak wrist can cause malfunctions. The revolver has no malfunctions from a weak wrist. Part of your decision may be based on whether you plan on carrying the gun on you. Semi-auto's are usually thinner and easier to carry concealed, that said, many people also carry a revolver.

If you want the gun for shooting at the range and home protection then you have more choices as the size does not matter as much as long as it feels comfortable for you to shoot.

My SUGGESTIONS for a range/Home Defense gun and remember these are ONLY SUGGESTIONS as the final choice is yours:

Bersa Thunder .380
Ruger LC.380
Walther PPK .380 or .32

Stoeger Cougar 9mm or .40
Ruger SR9 or SR40
Smith & Wesson M&P 9 or M&P .40
Beretta PX-4 Storm 9mm or .40
Bersa Thunder Pro 9mm or .40
Ruger P95
Glock 19

The above guns are good dependable pistols at reasonable prices.

My SUGGESTIONS for a gun to carry concealed or open are, and remember these are JUST SUGGESTIONS.

Ruger SR9c
Smith & Wesson M&P 9c
Beretta PX-4 Storm 9mm compact -- not subcompact
Bersa BP9cc 9mm
Glock 26 9mm
Bersa Thunder .380
Walther PPK .380 or .32

I hope this helps you with a choice of handgun, all the above guns will serve you well. HOWEVER, the final choice is yours as you are the one who has to shoot it. It is best to take your time picking one out since you want it to fit your hand well, be right for what you want, and have recoil which is to your liking.

As for revolvers I'll say check out:

Ruger
Smith & Wesson
Taurus

Also look at revolvers others own and listen to what they have to say.

Thank You
Your Friendly Shooting Range :dance3:

Also check out Hickock45 on youtube, this guy has shot every weapon imaginable. It helped with 3 pistols I was looking at. I recently purchased the Ruger sr40c after going to my gun dealer and actually seeing and handling the gun.
