Substandard and dangerous ammo

About a year ago WWB, .45acp 230gr. ball had those issues when they started-up from a new location or changed some machines or both. I forget. Thanks for the reminder, Peg. I'm going to check every round of my WWB range ammo (recently bought). My old stuff was OK too.

Think I'll check my carry ammo as well.

I got a few boxes of aluminum-cased factory .45 acp a while back that had 2-3 rounds with the bullets seated noticeably too deep. I don't remember the brand, but I'm pretty sure it was domestic.

Somebody had a picture of a blown up Glock on Facebook. Details were sketchy, but the report was that the shooter had cleared a malfunction and the gun blew up with the next round. My guess would be that the malfunction was caused by some kind of squib, probably little or no powder, and the bullet lodged in the barrel. Probably preaching to the choir here, but I think it would be a good idea to THOROUGHLY examine the gun and identify the malfunction before chambering the next round unless you're in the middle of a gunfight...

Peggy, don't know if I know you, but thanks for spreading the word about the issues with ammo, as I state on that post it is happening with 9mm & .45 as well. Please everyone check your ammo, I've heard of several having issues and my incident was with WWB 230gr fmj. Please be careful..

These are not reloads, these are factory loads. If there was a recall, they'd be on it. Trying to keep up with demand is causing quality issues.

midwest gun tech: .40sw factory load issues.... if you shoot a .40 you must read this..

I've always been taught to run your hand over the ammunition of each box you take out. Your hand will pick up discrepancies in height or feel better than your eye will. Just one more check that I do. I, of course, visual inspect them as well, but I've found running my hand over them has caught a couple of rounds over the years that were less than adequate.

Good post and good thing to always keep people mindful of. Thanks Peggy.

Please excuse my ignorance. I am new to all of this. Could someone please explain the steps to examining ammo for quality issues? Thanks so much!

Come on people, that post is a joke. No manufacturer or lot data is provided so how are you to know what of the estimated 5.5 BILLION rounds of ammo produced in the US are to be "suspect". That is IF the amo really was produced in the US. With that many "bad" rounds I would think that something happened in shipping instead of at the plant.

How much ammo had passed through each of your hands and how many of you have seen this happen?

By all means, check your ammo, but the problem is not as widespread as you all are making it out to be. Or if this is such a problem, how many handguns are you seeing self destruct each trip to the range? None?

Warbird, that is my blog that post is from and it is no joke, its been an issue for awhile now, we've had a lot of issues with WWB but all of the "plinking" bulk ammo.has been having issues. Instead of calling it a lie, why not go to my blog and post a question there? Geosan get a dial caliper and check a few bullets from each bulk pack compared to saami specs. This issue is not limited to .40, problems have been encountered with 9mm and .45.
No disrespect.warbirds but before calling.a person a liar or saying somethings a joke investigate the source, perhaps you're just a.casual Shooter expressing your opinion, but people in the business "instructors, competitors, etc" know about this issue and we are trying to warn people.

Let me clarify, I did not mean a joke as in Ha Ha.
.
I mean the post is a joke as far as having a pathetic lack of information. You are the one claiming that American produced ammunition is not passing quality standards. You don't provide ANY information, no manufacturer, lot numbers NOTHING. You lump top of the line ammo in with the crappy white box and say that the sky is falling. Your 8 issues in 200 rounds means that all 4.4 billion domestic rounds are failing quality control? That little graphic is about as useful as a meme about cats.

Sorry to piss in your Cheerios, I'm going to assume your a once in a month shooter, are you an instructor, range owner, club member, do you participate in IDPA, USPSA or any other shooting sport? Ironically since that post went viral I have received dozens of emails from people in the INDUSTRY telling me the same thing. The issues have been mostly with win and rem including defensive lines. I am going to call hornady tomorrow and speak with them about this. I've been in shooting sports for 13 years and I have either met or have had continuous emails with the largest names in this sport. So now that we have established that I know what I'm talking and that I am known in the shooting community, perhaps you can tell us about you and your ties to the community. How many rounds do you shoot a month, 1000+? I do, and that's not counting reloads. I'm not trying to start crap, I'm trying to warn people, and unless you really are a fellow sport shooter, unless you burn a couple thousand rounds a month please don't speak to what you may not have a solid comprehension of. Also you will see that knowledge was originally brought to my attn by Mr. Givens who is a traveling instructor and has a hugely successful business, his credentials are impeccable. As I said before I mean no disrespect, but I feel perhaps your not exposed to as much shooting as him or me.

Fill in these blanks
Manufacturer ________________
Lot number ______________
You have proven nothing but your inability to provide any useful information. No decent pictures of the brass, headstamps, bullet or case measurements, pictures of disassembled rounds, no measurements of case mouth. Nothing but high speed low drag wannabe nothing that would be great as a cat meme.
.
Here is something else you could put in a graphic, a foreign made car had it's accelerator stick, so everyone take your foreign made cars to the mechanic. That is equally true as your claims, except I can find a make and model of the car that had the issue so there is more facts behind it.
.
Edit
And if any of the internet experts you claim to know had any sense to provide the same information you might have a leg to stand on. That would be useful.

Warbird, are you a sport shooter or instructor?
What I may or may not be has no bearing on your claims. You are making a statement about the quality of American made ammo, trying to attack my credibility gives you none. Lot numbers, manufactures, pictures, measurements, what do you have to prove your claims?
.
and let me remake this statement.
"And if any of the internet experts you claim to know had any sense to provide the same information you might have a leg to stand on. That would be useful. "

Its no use you keep espousing the same thing like talking to a liberal. Have a good day.
let me help you out here.
You post the manufacturer and lot number. People say OMG I have that ammo in my basement. They check said ammo and tell you yeah or nay to let you know if they also see a problem. You are able to say, x number of people have had x number or bad rounds, this is or is not an issue. You are able to state based upon what data you have collected if you detect a trend, the world rejoices that you are stating facts and not rumors.
The fact you have fallen upon calling me a liberal instead of showing one scrap of evidence is so very sad. Go make yourself a cat meme.
