Student suspended for tea possession & interrogated by police in California...

I don't understand why the mother would send that in a kid's lunch...better off to send a frickin juice box or water...not that I'm defending anyone in this story.

When I first read the title of this thread, I immediately imagined some dork of a kid carrying around a zip-lock bag of ground tea leaves trying to look cool by pretending to have pot in order to impress his friends. And then getting caught be faculty and then being turned over to cops who were too ignorant to tell the difference. But after reading the article and finding that it was yet another example of our nanny state government and their interference into our daily lives. First, we need to vote the Obama's out of office, and then we need to abolish the NEA. They are not there to help our children.

Well this is America and as the parent she can send her kid to school with whatever lunch SHE wants to. Simple...

I know dozens of moms who would send kombucha with their kids for lunch. Most of them brew it themselves instead of buying it though.

Public schooling is fascism indoctrination, teaching children to become servants to the state... what they say goes, and you'd better like it. It's creating generations of children who become adults that believe the gov't is the master, we all serve it... it it will take care of all our needs and wants.

Y'know, FDR's "Freedom from want"... "Freedom from fear" BS... Yet, to ensure the survival and growth of gov't... it creates the want for more gov't via destroying economic growth, reducing wealth and encouraging more people to suck the teet. It creates the fear, the fear of foreign enemies... the fear of a chaotic world w/o gov't control, fear of your fellow man... it encourages domestic spying and false distrust in the ability of the free market to prosper.

It is all a part of the gov't plan to ensure its survival and undenied growth, with the support of an ignorant population.

We all better do our best to teach the priciples of individual liberty and self-reliance... or we're in for it.

One reason is tea is a more healthy alternative. Some parents (including ME), prefer alternative methods to keep our children healthy. Certain types of tea help ward off colds & flu. Some teas also really help bolster the immune system.

My wife is a aromatherapist and herbalist. She has helped several people overcome conditions such as asthma, colds and the flu through aromatherapy and the use of herbs. This usually requires inhaling the scent & aroma of a blend of essential oils. It also may entail drinking special blends of herbal teas.

We did run into things like this with some of her younger clients that go to public school. But, after we talked to the administrators of the school, they were more than understanding and it became a non-issue.

So, what I would say about this is; "The kid's parents should have talked to the school and told them that the kid drinks tea for health reasons."

Don't beat around the bush, Bob. Tell us what you REALLY think.
.
Not all schools/teachers are like that. My wife's a teacher and she hates hearing these stories just as much as the rest of us. She's well aware that it happens, it just doesn't happen around her. Small town Ohio, and most of small town America for that matter, still has some semblance of common sense in that regard. Most of the over the top PC crap in schools is limited to larger cities and states that are heavily liberal, such as on the west coast and in the northeast. Some of it has started to creep out into the schools elsewhere, at least to some extent, but it isn't quite so prevalent as it is in those heavily liberal areas. The trend doesn't appear to be favorable.

Scary and exactly right Gunner

You know, I wonder what they would have done if he'd had a bottle of NYQUIL???

Nothing. Tea is good for you and Nyquil really isn't but is just medicine so it would be allowed and tolerated. Get 'em hooked on meds early to fully support the Pharma cartels when an adult. Keep everyone medicated, intoxicated and uneducated and dedicated. That is the elitist plan.

There are good teachers out there. Their problem is that they are hampered by administration and bad policies. Policies are being implemented by people who are too far removed from the problem, or have there own agendas. The problem with the "PC crap" in larger cities and liberal states is that those cities and states have dense liberal population centers that control the politics for the entire state. Look at NY city and Kalifornia as examples. Also, these centers have a great influence on the rest of the country.

We live in a capitalist society, yet don't consider mastery of economics and math to be considered essential to a basic education. We live in a republic, yet graduate students who have no understanding of how the country is supposed to operate, let alone how it actually operates. What's wrong with this picture?

Not if it is perceived or known to be harmful to the student. Because in America we (school systems) have standards.
