I used to be the meat dept. manager at the Central City Mall in Central City, NE. It's a privately owned store. They have a no concealed carry policy and they do have a sign posted by one entrance about waist high on a short person.
A pair of men came into the store to purchase some snacks and drinks. One was carrying openly which in Nebraska open carry is legal except for Omaha and Lincoln. The manager and owner were informed and they proceeded to tell the men that they had to leave because they have a no concealed carry policy. The man said, "That's fine. I'll pay for my stuff and leave but just so you know it's not concealed and it's not illegal." The owner replied, "No, leave now and I don't care if it's legal it's our policy that no guns are allowed." The men then left immediately and drove off.
No big deal right? Wrong!
The store owner's wife then called the police and told them two men were in the store carrying guns and gave a description of the vehicle. Within minutes the men were stopped, asked politely at gunpoint to exit their vehicle, and lay on the ground face down. The men were questioned and then allowed to leave after their story was confirmed by the store manager.
The store owner and manager are hunters and gun enthusiasts. I used to have an ffl and since I spent more time at work then home I would use the store to send my packages of guns with UPS. The owner and manager knew about this and were fine with it. Whenever I got a new gun I would bring it in to show them with no issues.
So why do they have a no concealed carry policy? The owners WIFE is anti-gun. You might say Joe, the owner, might be whipped or have no balls but his wife is one mean witch. I'm a big guy with lots of experiences and few things scare me anymore but I knew better then to get on Cyndi's bad side and trust me I'm not the only one.
This might of been only a one time instance but still I don't think it was right to call the police when the men were clearly not breaking the law. The store was in the wrong by posting only a no concealed carry sign but no sign banning guns in general. If the store wants these policies then they have to know the laws so they don't overstep and make these mistakes. It didn't cost them anything to call the cops but I would of been emarrassed and more then a little angry if I was one of those men.
