Store owners called police for OPEN carry

I used to be the meat dept. manager at the Central City Mall in Central City, NE. It's a privately owned store. They have a no concealed carry policy and they do have a sign posted by one entrance about waist high on a short person.
A pair of men came into the store to purchase some snacks and drinks. One was carrying openly which in Nebraska open carry is legal except for Omaha and Lincoln. The manager and owner were informed and they proceeded to tell the men that they had to leave because they have a no concealed carry policy. The man said, "That's fine. I'll pay for my stuff and leave but just so you know it's not concealed and it's not illegal." The owner replied, "No, leave now and I don't care if it's legal it's our policy that no guns are allowed." The men then left immediately and drove off.
No big deal right? Wrong!
The store owner's wife then called the police and told them two men were in the store carrying guns and gave a description of the vehicle. Within minutes the men were stopped, asked politely at gunpoint to exit their vehicle, and lay on the ground face down. The men were questioned and then allowed to leave after their story was confirmed by the store manager.
The store owner and manager are hunters and gun enthusiasts. I used to have an ffl and since I spent more time at work then home I would use the store to send my packages of guns with UPS. The owner and manager knew about this and were fine with it. Whenever I got a new gun I would bring it in to show them with no issues.
So why do they have a no concealed carry policy? The owners WIFE is anti-gun. You might say Joe, the owner, might be whipped or have no balls but his wife is one mean witch. I'm a big guy with lots of experiences and few things scare me anymore but I knew better then to get on Cyndi's bad side and trust me I'm not the only one.
This might of been only a one time instance but still I don't think it was right to call the police when the men were clearly not breaking the law. The store was in the wrong by posting only a no concealed carry sign but no sign banning guns in general. If the store wants these policies then they have to know the laws so they don't overstep and make these mistakes. It didn't cost them anything to call the cops but I would of been emarrassed and more then a little angry if I was one of those men.

Why is no one mentioning that either the store owner committed a crime and made a false police report, or if the store owner reported things as they happened then the police committed criminal acts against the subjects of the call? The criminals should be held accountable for the acts they committed.

That's exactly what I was thinking. whoever called the police had to have lie to get such a response, and should be punished for doing so.

I don't think that is true at all. There are some police officers who would respond as such in response to any MWAG call. It is apparent one of the two parties was criminally negligent, either the caller or the responding officers. The criminals should have charges filed against them.

I agree

I wouldn't shop there anymore and I'd be suing them for the false report.

And, on a grammar Nazi note, it is: should HAVE, would HAVE, could HAVE, not of. That really drives me nuts.

It's a small town and if you're wealthy enough and make enough financial donations to the community you can get away with quite a bit. I've lived there off and on for 30 years and I've seen people get away with murder. Not literally, she actually got 7 years for stabbing her boyfriend to death.
I've heard a customer tell Cyndi they would not shop there if they banned concealed carry and her response was, "So go shop somewhere else." It's funny considering they are all about the money.

Cyndi sounds like a serious hoplophobe. Too bad; I think would avoid the place if I lived anywhere near there just to avoid having to talk to her.

Central City sounds like a good place to be from. There's not much there but an old Dairy Queen and a Pizza Hut. Even Dairy Queen went out of business.

I may have missed something, but it sounds like the sign banned "concealed" carry, and these gentlemen were exercising "open" carry. A technicality I suppose considering the owner asking them to leave is enough with or without the sign.

Actually they built a new Dairy Queen across the street and closed the old one. There's a Subway and a Taco Bell there now. The Pizza Hut there doesn't even deliver. How ass backwards is that?
Yes the sign was for concealed carry and since they were carrying openly they weren't breaking any laws. After they left when asked I think that should of been the end of it but they had to go that extra step and call the cops.

shame those 2 guys didn't sue the crap out of her and her hubby too,it would send a message to the leftys we are going to get our country back

If I understand this correctly, the store owner was upset about them being in her store with guns, she tells, not asked, them to leave, they leave the store, then she gets there plate# calls the law, and tells them lies about the encounter?........the level headed LEOs let them go only after getting hasseled, I'm afraid she would have to sell the store to pay the judgement I would have had against her, and would not have thought twice about it

perhaps the w in witch should be changed to a 'b' as not all witches are mean or anti gunners
and she may not even be a witch but rather just a typical hoplophobe

Assumption here, just a thought-- maybe these guys' kids schoolteacher drove by the traffic stop. Saw little Billy's dad involved in felony traffic stop, gossip, gossip, gossip, now everyone in the neighborhood thinks these guys are criminals. It was the store owners responsibility to be aware of gun laws when you are a business owner. The store owner had every right to deny them patronage but no right to call the police on them. It was the officers responsibility and dispatches responsibility to quickly and accurately investigate MWAG claims. I doubt it would be worth the time but I would take the store owner to small claims court for harassment and defamation just for the fun of it. A $2500 suit judgement may straighten the wife out a little bit.
For example: If your dog jumps up on the table and eats your steak and you don't distribute some form of punishment your going to have your steak eaten every time the dog gets a chance to eat it. The store owner alike the dog receives some form of satisfaction from this act. If you don't punish them they will continue.
This story is not unlike a story of a similar encounter in Hudson, WI a couple years ago. A group of open carry club members were eating at a restaurant. Restaurant calls the police. The police overstep the law and jerk around the open carry club members. Lawsuit brought on by open carry members. Judgment for the plaintiffs is granted and now the police and restaurant owners in the town won't pull that crap again.
Punish the dog or get your steak stolen.

If some one doesnt want a gun carried concealed what makes you think you would be welcome carrying openly.
She reported men carrying guns, truth yet troublesome most likly as meant to be-dont shop there.
In Tn the permit covers open or concealed I carry mostly concealed as dont need any more problems than currently have.
Pt 22 in a side pouch with a flap that says bushnell is about as close as it gets ,exposed yet disguised, worn on weak side.
Seldom do I pay att to signs other than legal places and no one notices, they can ask you to leave as they were told in the store.
Ever stop to think if everyone looks at you and can tell your packing, your doing something wrong.Concealed should also be a surprise for the wrong party or parties.if not you may be the one surprised.
