Stiff Mag Springs?

I put about 100 rounds through my new .45 today for a little "break in" time. The gun has 10 round magazines. The first time I loaded the magazines, I couldn't get more than 7 in either one of them. By the time I was done I was able to get 8 in both of them. I haven't experienced this with any of my other guns, but this is my first .45. Do the mag springs eventually "loosen up" to accomodate 10 rounds, or could they be defective?

That's just it, I can't even get them fully loaded. I've seen some that seem to be a little stiff at first, but never so bad that you absolutely could not get them loaded up. When you get to about 8 rounds it's like it's filled to capacity. Could it possibly be the ammunition?

Are you using a LULA? My M&P 9C was almost impossible to load 10 rounds in the mags when new. After using a LULA (device to load them) and a few months of shooting, I can actually put in the 10th round by hand.

It's a Desert Eagle .45. I also have a Desert Eagle 9mm, and was able to fill it to capacity by hand from day one, so that's why I was wondering. I'll check into getting a loader and see if that helps. Thanks guys.

It's probably a double stack magazine. The rounds will alternate which side of the magazine they are against. Make sure when you are loading the magazine you are paying attention to alternating which side the round is supposed to be pushed against, the don't stack directly on top of each other.
