I heard on Fox News that our Government is trying to put state taxes on all of your internet purchaces, they say that since the states have made really poor actions in the past and they need the money to cover there budgets, this is one place they can obtain a lot of money really fast. Has anyone seen anything on this?

no, haven't heard, I think you're ahead of the curve. A search turns up few results..I did find this one though..

Retailers confident lawmakers will pass legislation for online sales tax - The Hill's On The Money

seems odd that retailers are pushing for this..??..it would mean 50 separate tax returns right??? one for every state they sold merchandise to.

I wish they would just leave us alone, they tax everything and it's never enough... & it's never going to be enough. Why do we pay people to spend their entire careers looking for new ways to steal from us? it's crazy.

yeah, much easier to stick it to the little man who tries to save a few dollars by buying online, rather than merely getting rid of some of the corporate tax breaks that all the industries 'need', to maintain their bonuses.

truth.

I was also thinking that these "retail" lobbyists probably represent the big hitters, this would be a good way to sock it to the mom & pops that don't have the resources to deal with the extra paperwork burden... reducing competition through government has been going on for years.

Yes. NY has been doing this for at least the past two years. It's coming to everyone sooner or later. The total amount of internet purchases must be entered on the state income tax form. If you don't know they will apply a standard amount based on income. You have the option of saying you've made no internet purchases and then no additional tax is assessed.

Yep, can't tax ya at the point of sale so they'll have to rely on "honest" citizens to report. BUT and that's a very big BUTT, they as crooks know that most will cheat the system so they'll enact a federal sales tax on any site you buy from. They'll be a whole sub dept at the IRS to ensure compliance. They'll also have to hire more minions to follow up and keep tabs on you dishonest types out there. ALL in the name of the collective. They won't cut spending, they'll just tax even more. (NOW with SCOTUS approval) Will it ever end or should we just start signing over our whole checks to the collective.

Comrades, any questions??

This is NOT new. They've been crying about this for years. It's just a matter of time UNLESS enough people write their representatives. Which, if history is any indication, probably won't happen. NEXT, the Value Added Tax. Coming to our country soon after the election! A national sales tax on everything. Hurrah! Can't wait.

The main reason I buy items on line is to cut out the middle man and save a little money. It's going to be a real problem if they pass this rule.

Each of the various states is different. Some tax internet sales, others do not. Some make retailers collect sales tax on internet sales, others do not. Some make you / want you to self-declare your own "use tax" on internet transactions and/or private transactions. It all depends on what state you live in.

This is nothing new. It has been around since the internet started back in the 1990s.

Guess you just heard about something in your own state. The state legislatures change their minds on this from time to time.

Amazon.com is a classic case. Most states are trying to pass legislation to force them to collect and remit sales tax everywhere, since they have a competitive edge against Barnes & Noble. That's a special situation however.

If I were a Governor of a state I would declare a Tax Free Internet State.
As long as the merchandise was shipped from my state of ____________ there will be no sales tax.

Companies like Amazon etc would start building distribution centers employing Construction workers, other smart individuals would start building restaurants near those warehouses, employing more workers, UPS would have to hire more workers, the companies would have to relocate executives and managers creating a need for real estate, and on and on. The taxes collected from the boom in employment and in the residual money being spent would make the sales tax revenue look minuscule.

But alas......Other states that have already turned socialist (like NY) would cry foul and retaliate.
Who knows could even declare a tax war on that state.
Competition between states, what a concept.

ps. here is a life lesson about taxes. Companies, corporations and busniesses don't pay taxes. They collect them. Who do they collect them from? YOU!
So when you hear Hillary and Obama talk about taxing big business, they are lying to YOU they are really raising the tax YOU pay.
When you buy a garden hose from ___________ store, the taxes are in the price of that hose.
