State Reciprocity Confusion

It sure would be nice to find a 100% accurate web site that give accurate information on state-to-state concealed carry recriprocity.
For example, I'm traveling to Colorado this weekend. USA carry states Colorado recognizes my Nebraska permit, but if you go to the NRAILA web site, it says Colorado Does NOT recognize Nebraska's permit.

I try my best to keep my maps as up to date as possible. And I just checked and my maps seem correct in this case.

Nebraska YES

And from what I can see, yes NRAILA PDF is incorrect. That's the problem with posting static files. Someone has to constantly update them when every little thing changes. I built my maps to be updated in less than a minute once I learn there are updates.

Best thing to do is what Luke did, view the the states website.

That's really the only way to do it other than calling the state office handling that.

And even THAT doesn't work sometimes as that person could be wrong which happened to my recently when someone was telling me Nevada didn't recognize Rhode Island.

He said he spoke to the Nevada Attorney General's office which told him Nevada didn't recognize Rhode Island. Well for one, the Attorney General doesn't handle concealed weapon permits in Nevada, the Department of Public Safety does. I checked their site, Link Removed, and it showed Rhode Island and just to be sure I called them and they confirmed it.

Best bet is to always check the states AG Office and even then some are not up to date. It took Missouri's AG 6 months to get Nebraska on the site.

Attorney General isn't always the one that handles the Concealed Carry permits. You need to check which agency does that in the state you are looking for first.

Besides all that, reciprocity changes when individual state laws change. States have certain things they want in other state laws before they will reciprocate.

Warning! The ONLY sites you should trust for this information are the State Attorney General sites (or other designated site by that State) for your State and the State(s) you will be travelling through or to. Once you leave your home State, you are effectively under the firearms laws of the State you have entered.

All other websites containing such information are informational only. Using the State's own information will give you ammunition to defend yourself in court should you have an issue with lawful carry in another State, provided you've acted within the laws of that State.

That's not always the case...some states are notorious for NOT updating their sites....

I 2nd that one! I've learned that over the years of trying to keep everything up to day. State websites aren't the quickest to be updated.

I'd be careful about carrying under State reciprocity agreements... if you pass within 1000 feet of the property line of any K-12 school while carrying outside of the State that physically issued your permit, you are committing a federal felony punishable by 5 years in federal prison, and the permanent loss of your right to own a firearm.
