State Open Carry Laws

when u r trying to find what is and is not allowed in your state...

1.
NEVER trust what your local police tell you. Washington has very liberal open carry laws even in the absence of a CCW but an officer told me that if I opened my door for someone and a holstered weapon was visible, that they could carry a complaint to to police and I could be arrested.
that is a load of bull!

2. Go online to your State's web sites referring to the gun laws of your state. Some of them are conflicting or complicated. But your freedom may be at stake so consult with a knowledgable lawyer if you r unsure about any aspect of your state laws. Even then, use your judgement, know the various different laws that may apply in Federal buildings different than state, or municipal buildings or buildings that perform certain functions like schools or hospitals etc. ignorance of any aspect of all laws will not be taken into account.

3. If you do not qualify to legally own, purchase, possess qualify for a CCW or otherwise operate a weapon for any reason however small, make sure you legally get that handled before trying to once again take advantage of your forfeit Second Ammendment Rights.

Regarding the officer that said you could be arrrested. Hopefully you contacted his supervisor's and attempted to have this officer better educated on "probable cause for arrest"? Unless his superiors correct him, there is a good possibility that eventually he will perform an illegal arrest on a law abiding citizen?

First and most likely, the Officer or his supervisors aren’t much worried about what a citizen says. Second, you act like they are worried about a "false" arrest. They aren't because they will also charge you with other crimes, such as failure to obey an officer or some other sister charge and know that it will never reach court because the charges will be dropped when your lawyer contacts them. They know that you will have to hire the lawyer, then they simply drop charges. Of course for the rest of your life applying for most jobs, especially Government positions, you will have to disclose that you were arrested, even though the charges were false and were dropped. So much for future jobs... Just stating facts...

Live in Texas, always answer my door with a weapon, day or night, my property, if you don't like it you are welcome to leave.

I live in Oklahoma where OC was just passed. I will wait to see how open carriers are treated before I open carry. At least I shouldn't have to worry about accidentally printing or flashing my concealed handgun.

Madison Wisconsin, just paid $10,000.00 to a guy, they arrested for Open Carry, so, no... they care!
And did anyone loose their job? Personally pay a fine? What I do know from my many experiances is the city used insurance fund to pay the persons attorneys fees without admitting wrong and moved on. I am quite sure they didn't worry about a measly 10K in a budget of many millions. Show me where a cop was fired or demoted and dinner and drinks are on me!

Hopefully at a minimum at least the cops were warned, "Don't do that again!" by their bosses.
