Star CO .25 ACP issues.

I have one of these, a little 8 shot blow back .25 auto made in 1950. My dad used to carry it as a pocket gun in the 60's.
I recently tried to resurrect this little gun as it had been in a drawer for over 30 years.
Yesterday I noticed something weird, with the hammer fully cocked and safety on, if you firmly pull the trigger you feel a barely perceptible click. Then, when you take the safety off, the hammer drops to the half cocked position!:fie: If you don't tug the trigger it acts OK but the safety is there to prevent an ND if the trigger is accidentally pulled, right? It does prevent the hammer from dropping, but in the situation described, the hammer catching on the halfcock position is all that would have stopped a discharge had the weapon been loaded. Does anybody in here know anything about these little pistols?

I know this....let a gunsmith look at it or just clean it and keep it as a remembrance of your father. Get a Kel Tec P-32 or a Ruger lcp if you want something small to carry. IMO the .25 acp should not even have been made. Shoot someone with it might just make the person mad. Sure they could kill someone but I would not want to use one.

Interesting statement from someone who self-admittedly doesn't own anything bigger than a 9mm and recommends a .380 or .32 for EDC. I personally would never use anything smaller than a 9mm for SD and that's as a last resort.

I know nothing about those pistols in particular but, the first thing you should do is take it to a gunsmith... just with the info you provided, it sounds like your sear may have something to do with it.

Yeah, I will take it to someone and have it checked eventually, it is not being used now. I am not really counting on it as a carry weapon, it is more of a little novelty to try to hit stuff with at the range although if push comes to shove I would rather empty that magazine at (and hopefully into) a bad guy than nothing. I have a Smith and Wesson SD9VE to carry when my permit ever comes through, it is a little large but conceals OK until I invest in something better. I guess I already knew the answer but part of me was saying this is still better than my S&W or a Glock where if a round is chambered it will go BANG if the trigger is pulled inadvertently, but the rest of me was saying if something is not right with it it needs to be fixed.

Thanks everyone for their replies.

Rick.
