I emailed our Sherriff to see where he stood on the potential confiscation of weapons after learning that DiDi was pushing hers on the 22nd of this month. Here is his response, copied and pasted along with his contact info.

Well in that case you should that I will support and defend the Constitution! In short, I will defend your right to own and keep firearms.

it's nice to see that some still honor their oath! Any different response or a failure to respond will have consequences, as our local police chief is about to find out!

An effort to collect guns would fail. A good amount of the people asked to do the confiscating would either not do it, or quit.

It's been said that if an AWB materializes and confiscation begins it will make felons out of millions of honest, law abiding Americans. I would agree with that. I also believe many tragedies would follow and innocent life lost.

I tend to believe that many in law enforcement would not put themselves in harms way to complete any confiscation effort on the Governments part. Ultimately what will happen is anyones speculation and I have to say I am somewhat fearful about what may happen. There are those politicians who are ravenous to get this done and over with. If the sales of "the evil black rifle" are any indication of how Americans feeel about this subject, I would hope the politicians behind this move would take notice. Anyone being intellectually honest with themselves would have to agree that these rifles are not the problem, and confiscating or seriously limiting their possession would do little to nothiing in stopping these events from occurring in the future. There was a reason why Japan did not invade the American Mainland during WWII, Isoroku Yamamoto was credited with saying that their would be a rifle behind every blade of grass. In a pinch I bet there would have been, or maybe every other blade of grass.

The gun is part of our culture, misuse of them by a small precentage of our population does not necessitate, nor mandate, the removal of them from society. More times than not these guns are used to thwart crime than create it. Those in government that are actively seeking to remove them do not understand this and regularly ignore it. Statistics alone and personal accounts of protection rarely make the news except in extreme cases.

Time has come for us as gun owners to standour groundandfight any change thatleaders try to cram down our throats. I hope you do the same as I and engae your elected officials in demanding they back off and make us less of a target than we already are. Think about it, Diane Feinstien wants us to live like Illinois, or New Jersey. I refuse to be a sitting duck for some cretin to prey on. Surely as I stand here first its guns, then it's knives (that has already started) and then what ever comes next that some one finds to injure some other person. The time is now for us to stand and not become (as Eric Holder has staqted) a stigmatized part of society like smokers have become.
