SR22 for CC

Hi Everybody! I am new the world of CCW. I wanted to get opinions on carrying a Ruger SR22 as a daily carry weapon. I wanted to get something that was easy to carry and that was easily concealable and thought this might be a good idea. Any wisdom that could be given would be greatly appreciated. I already own a Ruger SR9 for target use but it is too big for me to carry concealed.

Hi, I have had my CCW Permit for over a year, I bought A Ruger LCP 380 Auto, It is small & Thin, I use A pocket Holster to carry in my Pants Pocket,
It is very easy to carry un-noticed , And it shoots very well, I love my Ruger 380, It holds 6 bullets in the Magazine And I keep it (HOT), So that is a total of 7 shots, I hope & Pray that I will never need to use it, But I believe in the 2nd Amendment, And I believe in the right to Protect myself as well.
REMEMBER, When you need help in seconds, Help is minutes away. Thanks & God Bless you

It's generally not recommended to rely on a .22 rimfire, as even in the more expensive rimfire ammunition, the priming method is not known for reliability. Practice failure to fire drills so if you need to rely on your SR22 and the ammo fails, you go into auto-pilot. Good luck!

I would not recommend a .22 unless you simply can not shoot anything larger. There are plenty firearms with larger calibers that are smaller or as small as the sr22.

Check out sr9c, xd compact, glock compacts, m&p compact. If you want to carry even smaller then the sr22, look at micro pistols for your pocket.

So unless the .22 is the only round you can shoot precisely, I advise you not to carry one.

Personally, I carry a 380 almost all the time. Not too big and not too heavy. I have a DB380 by Diamond Back. My son likes the 9 mm variety. Diamond Back has a 9mm equivalent that is only very slightly larger than the 380 version. Both feel good. You may want to check them out.

I agree with what's already been stated. I have a few different carry firearms, for various reasons. I recently picked up the the S&W M&P Shield 9mm. It is very light, easy to conceal, very easy to shoot. Now it has a little snap, but it is very controllable. Some people may have concerns because it's new to the market, but I've put a couple hundred rounds through with no issues whatsoever. Galco has an IWB that will already work with it, as well as the other vendors who have made other accessories as well. I've worn it for a whole day and it felt like I was carrying a .380. If you can find one, or even one of the other really good compact firearms out there.....give them a shot. Check for rentals at your local range....it's a really good place to get a feel for new firearms.

This is such awesome advice. Thanks to everyone for giving me some great ideas. I now know what I need to look into for my CCW now. Looks like the 380 is where I might start looking.

Lets set things straight.
A 22 WILL KILLED SOMEONE. IT WILL KILL THEM JUST AS DEAD AS A .50 AE. DEAD IS DEAD IS DEAD.

Now. You do have to be more accurate, and know where to hit (same with other larger ones) the difference is. Instead of having. 380 inch to hit with you have .22 inch. Yes. A .32 acp has more power.
If your within 22 feet. (Max average shooting for self-defense) just as long as you hit the kill zone you are okay.
22 or 380 I don't care. I don't want to be shot with either.

Just picked up an SR9 to carry as a backup and have not been able to try it yet, but it seems like a nice option for smaller carry.

YES! I'm sick of hearing that a .22 won't kill. Personally I wouldn't carry one as a primary defense weapon, but as a small light back up gun, heck yeah! Heaven forbid I have to use it, I still feel confident in self-defense ranges it will do the job I need it to given that I've practiced and know my limitations with the particular weapon. But I thought we did that with whatever we carried?

my wife carries a 22. i have also in the past and have had no troubles with it although i do carry a 9mm now to each his own. i personally would get used to carring the sr9 around, remember as a great man (my dad) once told me you don't carry to be comfortable, you carry to be comforting.

STRONGLY would recommend against a .22 for a CCW.

When needing to defend your self with the use of deadly force, A .22 is not the weapon I would choose. I CC the Ruger SR40c. But there are smaller weapons out there if your body frame cant conceal that size weapon. The Beretta Nano, the Ruger LC9 and as already stated the S&W Shield. As for a .380 pocket gun, a good secondary weapon, or summer CC weapon. Still wouldnt feel confident in its stopping power.

When the **** hits the fan and the use of deadly force is needed, the stress of the situation will hamper one's aim!!! Striking the kill zone will be harder to do. Yes a .22 will kill, but under stress, I would rather miss the kill zone by 2 inches with a .40 or 9mm.

While I agree with a lot of the comments, if you are new to ccw, which by now you are not, I personally think the sr22 is a good starter weapon. It's small, lightweight, and easy to conceal. I wore mine for months. On top of that, it is so simple to field strip, and really reliable for a .22. After you get used to the idea of having the weapon at your side, and get more comfortable with larger caliber weapons, you can still retain the sr22 as a secondary. My personal favorite carry is a 38 special revolver, less to go wrong with a revolver than a semi auto. All in all though, a gun is a gun, and no matter what size hole it makes, you get shot, you're gonna be stopped.

I carry a PT22,yes when can afford something tad larger will obtain, still fairly small like a 32 acp da,steel bit more weight.
Like the hammer as a telltale that trigger has engaged, dislike those made without a safety, glocks, keltecs are not true da but fire more like an sa 5 lbs trigger pull, just longer and do it from half cock not full restrike capable, very much like a sa colt that unlike the colt, will also fire from half cock lacking half the safety devices. As in re-holstering in an IWB can set one off with 5 lb pull,or like in a recent shooting someone hug you from behind and you reseat pistol.
They cannot import hanguns with out a safety therefore should not be made here, just my own opinion.
Your 22 is better than a 45 left at home, being small 130 lbs cant hide a 45 under a t shirt and pair of shorts, yes own a 45 stays at home for home defense,as to large to cc,without a winter coat.It a 22 is easier to recover and shoot again, and one tends to be more accurate like as in close encounter a 7-8 in long gun is harder to get between you and the problem than a 4 or 5 in gun. That said it isnt a small 22 at 6 1/2 but an easy gun to learn with, little or no recoil.
About same size as a cz82-9x18 mak-$250

I wouldn't want to get shot with a .22 either, but as far as your question goes, skip the SR22 and buy an SR9c or SR40c. An LC9 is also a good option.

You would rather carry an SR22 than your SR9? There is not much of a size difference, I don't believe. Carry the SR9 and get used to it.
