Springfield XDm line

I'm looking into the possibility of getting a new .45. Does anyone have anything to say about the Springfield XDm line.

I had the XDm. 40, hate the grip safety. Mag release isn't good for IDPA shooting. Heavy compared to other poly guns. It will eat anything you feed it. It will go BANG everytime you pull the trigger.

I have a Taurus PT145 Millennium Pro. The gun is a mid size 45, not a 1911 and not a small one. It shoots fine, Conceals easy, but I have had magazine feed issues from day ONE. The magazine & spring allows the bullets to jump up level and they will not load. I called Taurus and they sent me 2 more that do exactly the same thing. I tried turning the spring around in one, cause I had 4, and it did not help. As long as you only keep about 5 rounds in the magazine its great. It shoots well but the trigger is a little hard to pull. But if I had wanted a 5 round gun I would have bought the small one.

So if you get an offer to buy a used one don't unless you shoot it first, or just stand and use your thumb to push bullets out of the magazine and see if they catch. You don't even need the gun just the magazines, and some bullets, just try and load a full load and stand and push them out with your thumb, they will catch turn level and not eject. If I had a gunsmith around I would take it to one, but I am so flustered now I just want to trade it off. Taurus is no help at all, I couldn't even get an e-mail address from them and the guy on the phone was an ahole..

Go to a gun store and see how it feels in your hand. On paper I love the XDm45c, but I prefered the feel of the S&W M&P 45c. Only you can make that determination. Springfield Armory is great company that stands behind their products. Reviews in magazines were good. So go compare it against other 45s in the size class you are looking for. XDm is good choice.

I own an XD 45 service model and I am very satisfied with it. I think there only minor variances between the XD and XDM such as a match grade barrel and a couple changes to the grip and slide etc. A previous post mentions it will eat anything and I have fired many brands of RN and FMJ's w/o any problems. Although not an attractive gun it is well thought out but yet simple and very rugged with an exceptionally strong polymer frame.

If you get a chance buy or download via a torrent site such as demonoid, AGI's Springfield XD Armorers Course. Bob Dunlap gives it very high praise and he is a fickle gunsmith. One part of the design has the slide, upon recoil, striking a steel insert held by 4 points on the frame that reduces the shock to the frame plus the recoil spring is not bound up when the slide is locked open. It appears to be taken completely apart fairly easily for a good cleaning using a few simple tools. After viewing this video I was very impressed with the XD and would not hesitate to recommend either the XD or XDM to anyone. I hope this helps.

I have an XDm9 and feels great in my hand.
I've tried a few different types of ammo brands (cheap and expensive) and never had FTF or FTE.
I have no issues with the mag release but I don't shoot IDPA so I don't know how it would work there.

Xdm

Well as my signature will say, I am a fan. As other posters have stated if it fits your hand (feels good) then get one. I have six beween XD and XDM - XD in 9 SC and tactical, in 40 the service model. in XDM a 40 and 2 9 mm with 4.5 and 5.25. Two of the XDM's came from Canyon Creek, the 9 mm tactical has been through the custom shop at SA. Used to have 9 mm service model but sold that for the 40 in the same size, which became my primary carry gun. The tactical has about 10,000 rounds through it without a problem unless you want to count the time I had the spring in a mag break and all the rounds flew out and the gun jammed. The 9 XD has a about 3000 rounds through - as with the tactical mostly in USPSA matches with no problem. Just got the 5.25 with good results as well, only two small matches and 500 range rounds through but that is working great thus far. The 40's don't have a lot of rounds through but they as well work great. Years ago I picked up my first XD at a gun show and the feel and balance made for love at first sight. I was carrying a Glock 19 at the time and to avoid the Glock bashing was a good gun, this just felt "gooder". Ended up selling my Glocks and went all XD/XDM. Had a CZ for a time that I shot in competition and yes that is a good gun too but had trouble getting used to the DA/SA trigger. Back to the XD - feels good, shoots accurate and gets the job done. About the only one I don't have is the 45 but have shot several and feel they are equally as good. Some people have trouble with the grip safety but for me it is not a problem and adds an extra layer of safety when you are carrying hot. Heck from how I hear it, Plexico Burris wouldn't have ND'd and gone to jail if he had had an XD rather than a Glock. Even the student in my class who have little or no shooting experience with shooting make this work well. If you can find a gun show and try the feel, find someone with each one that feels good and shoot. Then the best part - go buy one...... ahhh I mean the second best part, after you buy go and shoot. Have fun and good luck.

I have an XDM 4.5 in .40S&W. very nice Handgun. I feel the sights are excellent. The trigger is smooth and crisp and consistant. I do not have an issue with the mag release, nor grip safety. I have found that for me it is actually as concealable as my G23,both IWB, although it is 3/4" longer in the grip. Shoots well with all ammo, gets back on target quickly. I have large hands, but found the small grip strap works best for me. I consider it a very good purchase.

Great firearm, used it through the police academy and the instructor fired it as well. Once he was done he started trying to figure when he had time to go purchase one. Excellent overall easy to break down and clean just price is high.
