Springfield Loaded or Colt Government?

I'm going to be picking up my first 1911 and have boiled it down to one of these two. For the price, the Springfield loaded offers a lot of custom parts. But it will be nice to have the reliability of a Colt government model. I'm wondering what people's opinions are on each of these weapons and which one you would prefer. I held both of them and just can't decide which one to get. I don't know a lot about them to make a real educated decision. I have done some reading on each but can't seem to find a bad point of either.

Both are nice and reliable. I would get the Springfield, put about 200rounds through it, then polish the action. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

My Springfield Loaded had to be returned to Springfield 3 times over 12 months to get it to feed properly. I went through 1000 rounds "Breaking it in" as they suggested and it still jammed on HP ammo and would not feed Critical Defence rounds at all because the plastic tip would hit the ramp and stop. It also threw the brass in all direction. They polished the ramp and throat, swapped the extracter, and put in an 18 pound recoil spring. Then it put a big dents in every piece of brass so they could not be reloaded. Finally they swapped out the entire upper and now it works fine. No more Made In Brazil for me. If I had it to do over again I would buy the Ruger. Good luck.

Yeah, I've read that. What does everyone think of Smoth and Wessons 1911? Now, I'm torn between S&W and Colt. Damn!!

I'm a 1911 guy. I'd be comfortable carrying any manufacturer's 1911 as long as it feeds my ammo and I can see the front sight.
If I was gonna buy a Brazilian one I'd probably just get a Taurus.

For me the "see the front sight" thing kinda cuts out the government models, because that little blade sight is just really difficult for me to see when I am trying to draw and shoot quickly.

I just picked up a Remington 1911 R1-S. For the price you can't go wrong and at the range today, going through 500 rounds and no failure to feeds and 1.5" groups at 25 yds. You can't ask for better than that. The gun is American made and is just as good as the Colt or Springfield. I do have an XDm Competition in .40 S&W and a Glock 22. I also have an FNH FNP-45 Tactical with the Trijicon RM07 on it. And the Remington shoots as well as the FNH. Just my 2 cents

You might want to check out STI. If you start shopping around comparing feature for feature they have some models that are very competitively priced.
I don't have one but a couple of the guys that I shoot plates with do, and from what I have observed they are rock solid.

Man that Combat Elite is really nice! I wonder if you can get one all stainless?
Nope. Unless you want 10mm. That ammo will be too hard to find once SHTF. But I like the contrasting steel colors. I bet she'll look tits with a set of urban camo digi camo grips!

I've had a SA Mil-spec, 3 Colt GMs, 2 Taurus PT 1911s, and a Sig C3. I got rid of the SA to dad and sold the black PT-1911. If I were going to get another, I'd get another stainless Colt.
