Springfield grip safety

I'm interested in getting the Springfield Mod 2. Does anyone have any thoughts on the grip safety good, bad, or ugly?

Don't like it. In the heat of battle, it may not be depressed properly if you both are fighting for possession of your firearm. I think SA made a mistake including it on my sidearms, but it was not enough to have me searching for other brands. I don't like manual safeties either.

There are many sidearms without a grip or manual safety (Glock), which only use the dual blade trigger safety, that are out there. I just didn't like the ergonomics and build quality of the Glocks. They are basic in look and operation, but work almost flawlessly, and that is important in selecting the sidearm of your liking.

Try-out a pile at an indoor range that rents sidearms, and decide if any of those you might like.

I have to make a conscious effort to get high enough purchase to deactivate the grip safety on my XDm. My XD-S, no thought at all.

Its a1911 thing. Take it or leave it. A 1911 without a grip safety is like a Scotch and Water with out the Scotch.

The Springfield Mod 2 is certainly NOT a 1911. It is a striker-fired handgun with a grip safety. Also, ever heard of a pinned grip safety? It is quite common with people that use handguns professionally.

Thank you for the comments. To continue with the analogy I don't like any water in my Scotch and Water. I will eventually add a 1911 to my collection. I see a special offer from SA with two extra mags for free. It sweetens the deal on the Mod 2.

I've sold a few and I've had a few dozen go through my books as transfers. I would say that the deal that Springfield is running and was running swayed a lot of people but I know many of the ones I transferred that wasn't there first Springfield. Most of the people went XD, XDS, MOD.2

Sorry bout that. As soon as I saw Springfield I immediately thought 1911. My bad, s the teenagers say.

First handgun I ever shot was a 1911. The grip safety has never presented a problem for me. I have an XD Sub 9mm, & an XDS 45. Both are great pistols, the grip safety is quite natural to me.

I have one

I carry a Mod 2 sometimes. It can get a little heavy, but I really like it. I have done several hrs of defensive training with the firearm and the grip safety has never been an issue.

Thinking that fighting for control of your weapon means you did something wrong to get into that situation but stuff happens I guess.
In the heat of battle you might not have a proper grip and the gun will not fire because of the grip safety.
Then again if you do not have a proper grip, therefore control and the gun does fire, where is that bullet going?

Somewhere into the body of the assailant, preferably enough to end the threat. Yes, stuff happens. People could argue the "what ifs" for years. Not relevant until a "what if" happens.

It really depends more on your shooting preference. If you are used to using a gun with a grip safety, you shouldn't have a problem adapting to the Mod 2. If not, you could definitely find it difficult to get used to.
