Springfield EMP

Just picked up the emp 9mm for CC and was wondering what ammo other owners were finding worked the best in this sweet little handgun.

I like Hornady TAP, Golden Saber, Federal Hydra-Shok and Winchester PDX. I tried some of the new Federal Guard Dog HD rounds, but they are light and cycled the slide very slowly. I also shot Sellier and Bellot for target practice, but it didn't run well and caused malfunctions. The primers were leaving brass in the firing pin hole and causing light strikes.

BTW, I love the gun. I put some Hogue rubber grips on mine and carry in a custom IWB leather holster.

How do you compare the weight of the EMP to other guns. A friend on mine picked up a full size Springfield 1911 and I compared the weight of it against the weight of my XD40 and the XD40 was lighter than the 1911 both were fully loaded. I have been looking / considering the EMP as an EDC but now that I felt the heft of the 1911, I dunno.

There would be no comparison to the full size 1911, It would be considered in the compact class it only has a 3" barrel and would be a lot easier to use for CC. It will be replacing the glock 26 I have been using for CC.

I too carry the federal premium hydro shocks in 147 grain and the hornady Jhp in 124 grain depending on where I am. The subsonic 147 is a great round when you want stopping power without worrying about thru and thru's.

The 9mm EMP has an alloy frame, so don't compare it to an ordinary 1911. The 9mm is very light, but still has little recoil. The 40cal has a steel frame and is noticeably heavier. I love my 9mm EMP. Easily my favorite handgun.

Good choice. For practice I use American Eagle 124 grain. I tried Speer lawman and it went a little high right.

It's not in my carry rotation right now but I like Gold Dots. 124 grain. All other 9mm carry guns in the rotation use them.
