The Springfield Armory Range Officer has just introduced as a new 1911 designed for people interested in shooting competitively. It is called - The RO, Range Officer, for short. The Range Officer is designed to give the shooter exceptional quality, at an affordable price. One of the goals was to create a pistol that is acceptable in many different style of shooting competitions, so the shooter can design which competition fits them best. It is built with the same prevision at the Trophy Match, and TRP models, but Springfield has removed the "extras" that result in a higher price. The Springfield Armory Range Officer is everything you need in a competition model, at an affordable price, and easily upgradeable for your future needs.

meh at this point there isn't really anything new that the industry will ever do to a 1911.....we are pretty much at the limits of 100 year old architecture and technology

I want one. I'm pretty sure I need one. Let me check..........yup, I need one. It's settled then.

The 1911 may be 100 yrs old but it is still a great handgun. The Range Officer looks like a nice 1911, nice sights, nice grips, nice finish, good accuracy, and Springfield reliability and quality. I will be looking for one of these in the near future.......I was tempted to put a smiley face here but I can't stand the things.

For me, it comes down to the SA Mil-Spec and the RO. I like the classic lines of the Mil-Spec. But, I like the better sights on the RO. Decisions, decisions...

One of those babies will be coming home with me this year. Time to donate to my gun fund.

Bigger sights, more to snag on unless to do not plan to CC with this fine piece of work. Maybe someday day the RO as well as a M1 GARAND.
