speer lawman 165 grain 40 s&w troubles

I went to the range yesterday to shoot my glock 27 gen 4. The ammo i brought along was Speer Lawman 165 grain 40 s&w. Out of 200 rounds 5 of the rounds did not fire. I was shooting for a total of 45 minutes so this seemed to happen often. Then i had a round that failed to eject. Ive never biught this ammo before i usually just stick with winchester white box.

I switched the ammo to hornady critical defense 180 grain xtp and they functioned flawless.

Never had an issue with the gun before so i think its ammo related..has anyone ever experienced problems with the Speer Lawman 165 grain 40 s&w ball ammo?

I use Speer Gold Dot 180gr JHP. I have never had a hiccup in either a G23 or G22.

Do you know if this was happening from the same magazine or not?

If the magazine is older, it may just be a new spring would do the trick. I find it highly unlikely that Speer would give you trouble in your firearm.

The other question I would ask is how many rounds has your firing pin seen? If it is starting to wear it's possibly not hitting the primer hard enough. Although, with yours being a Gen 4, I'm doubting this.

If you've ruled these out, what else have you looked at?

Ive had the gun for 8 months now and there has been about 800 rounds through it. I didnt notice it being from the same magazine but i didnt think about it at the time. Also, ive never modded the gun in anyway, it's completely stock. Never had troubles at all until just yesterday when i was shooting the Speer Lawman

With that few rounds through it, I highly doubt it is the firearm itself. But put it through its paces. Number each magazine to see if you can isolate the problem to one magazine.

Also, use several different types of ammo to see if you can duplicate the problems with other ammo. If you can, then it is not the ammo.

If you can't... then maybe you got a bad batch. It happens sometimes, albeit very rarely.

I've shot speer lawman ammo and never had a problem with it. I shot my G23 with it, no problem. I do have a G27 gen4, but No matter what ammo I put in it, it fires. I haven't used the speer lawman in my 27, but if I ever do, I'll watch for that.

I have yet to find a really bad ammo for my Ruger. I manly shoot Winchester WB in .40S&W (180Gr) at range but have read some forum posting of people having issues with the Winchester of late. I guess guns are finnicky, sometimes

I've used the Speer Lawman in 9x19 and .45acp with very little trouble, if I did have any issues they were unremarkable being as that I don't remember any. The 9x19s used were a Glock 34 and M&P9c, the .45acp used was a Taurus PT1911-AR... Perhaps your particular pistol doesn't like light(er) bullets...?
