Speech Class...

I am considering doing a speech about CCW on the college campus, which is legal at my campus, but not very well known. I wanted to do an informative speech about how it is allowed. Based on my reading the news all the time and wanted to give a speech about something that makes the news a lot, and is relevant to the class. Rather than someone who is an advocate of and a CC'er. Do you think this would be appropriate, and do you think it would blow my CC? How could I answer the "do you CC?" question leaning more toward a no'ish or I wouldn't say if I did during the speech? Rather than being directly asked afterward.

Any input would be great.

If it's legal, I wouldn't really worry about telling them whether you do or don't; they can't do anything about it anyway. There probably will only be a couple who are curious anyway, most people couldn't care less as they realize it doesn't affect them.

I, too, am in Colorado, and have studied the laws around this extensively. I try to maintain a very low profile, embracing the first 'C' in CC. "Do you CC?". I think you make it part of your speech. State specifically that you "...carry from time to time at places of your choosing in a manner that is approved by law..." Then go in to your talk on the laws. Then, if anyone asks, refer back to what you said, and maintain that line. I think it will be assumed you have a permit when you give the speech, so I wouldn't deny that, I don't think. I think a non-CC person giving a speech about CC would seem... Perhaps insincere.

Thanks, I like that.

You could always answer that a permit holder should "carry always, never tell". I like what GLADad said: "I try to maintain a very low profile, embracing the 'C' in CC." If asked if you are a permit holder, you can say "that's for the state and me to know" and then smile.

As you've already learned, an informative speech is designed around the concept of "Tell 'em, tell 'em, tell 'em". Perhaps BenGoodLuck's idea of "carry always, never tell" could be incorporated in each of the three phases of your speech.
