~The Dude Abides~
Investigators have determined that a South Texas deputy accidentally shot himself in the hand during his 26th birthday party.
Officials at University Hospital in San Antonio say Bexar County sheriff's Deputy Eric Espino was in fair and stable condition Tuesday. The off-duty deputy was wounded early Monday during a party at a residence.
Detective Louis Antu says Espino apparently put his hand over the muzzle of a shotgun. Espino was shot in the right hand when he picked up the weapon and it discharged.
Investigators are trying to determine whether alcohol played a role in the wounding of the detention officer.

Every single day I pick up and move weapons from my night stand to my safe when I'm headed for work, and then pick up and move weapons from the safe at work, load 'em, holster the handgun and carry the shotgun to the truck. At least two movements per location of loaded weapons every single workday, and I've been doing it that way day in and day out for over five years now. Never once have any of those weapons made the decision on their own to discharge. Not once. Link Removed

I guess I treat my weapons right. They must like me, as they have maintained their decisions not to discharge on their own and shoot me in the hand (or other body parts) when I pick 'em up and move 'em around. I thank them every day for that, and I know they appreciate my gratitude. Link Removed

This deputy is fortunate to have such an understanding local media outlet. Otherwise, he might actually have to be held accountable for his irresponsibility, instead of the writer blaming his gun. Link Removed

that's gotta be a pretty decent sized hole in his hand, is that even repairable? or will he get to forever legally cheat at 'hide and go seek'?

I know right?

It's amazing that my Glocks have also been very 'well behaved' to both my family and I.
I have owned Glocks for the last 22+ years and not one of them has ever decided to fire 'accidentally'.

It's clear from this story that some cops are clearly just too damn ignorant to be cops i.m.h.o.
Apparently all of those background checks don't weed out 'stupidity'.

Impossible. Could never happen. Police are the only ones who are trained to use and handle firearms.

Sorry, professional police officers, I just couldn't resist.

Stupid should hurt!
