God Bless Our Troops!!!
Sometimes you need to get away from it all...Really away...Camping with attitude, roughing it, going it alone, call it what you will but if you have never practiced you will fail.
Things that may help you out sometime...
1. Avoid well known roads and trails if the going is easy for you, it is easy for whoever is tracking you as well.
2. Pay attention to terrain. Avoid gullies and draws, these are fatal funnels.
3. Don't let yourself get boxed in.
4. Don't walk on top of a ridge line...sky-lining tells everyone who you are, where you are, and how many you are.
5. Don't walk along creek/riverbanks you are exposed and these make very natural fatal funnels.
6. Do stop ever so often and check your six. This pays off well in situational awareness.
7. If you must cross a road or trail do so at as close to a 90 degree angle as possible to limit exposure and transit time.
8. Recon Recon Recon...Check the area you are going to operate from at least three times before settling in.
9. Think like a sniper. Look at the terrain features and figure out what would give the best tactical advantage...Don't go there, stupid, that is the first place they will look for you. But at least you know where they are heading to and that my friends makes all the difference in the world now doesn't it!
