Someone using your gun?

Ok first off new to the forum and I'm horrible at using forum searches so I apologize ahead. Anyways me and my gf both have our ccw permits and we live together. Was wondering since I travel alot and gone if I could let her use my handgun since when I'm away I can't carry it. I live in Nebraska and she's from Iowa so she has a Iowa permit. Thanks

The gun is independent to the permit.

As long as you trust her and don't mind her using it in a possible defense situation, sure.

As long as she has a legal permit it doesn't matter whose gun she uses. Granted she has permission from the owner...

It is like a driver's license. Follow the rules and have a valid license, it doesn't matter what car you drive. As long as it fits the conditions of your licensure.

????

Well this is a gray area i guess if your just looking for the legal stand point then yes she could carry your weapon but i would put it in writting that she has permission to carry it while your away along with the make model and serial number . That should cover you and her both but the problem comes if she is carrying it and it gets stolen or if it gets used in a crime then even though there is no national data base on who has what firearm they can still trace it back to the last person whom bought it via the back ground paper work best bet buy her a weapon of her own and cut out all the bs

How about double register the handguns. That way you are covered if something happens to one of you. It would also be legal for her to carry that particular handgun.
Just a thought.

If you 'gf' has her own 'ccw' permit, then why doesn't she have 'her own' sidearm?

Thanks for the info and as for why she doesn't haven't had the extra money to spend to get her a gun.

First, if she lives in Nebraska with you now, her Iowa resident permit probably isn't valid anymore as she is no longer an Iowa resident.

Second, the others are correct, the gun doesn't matter for the permit, as far as I know, in either Iowa or Nebraska. I do believe that some states do tie your legal ability to carry to a specific firearm (s) though so you might want to check to be sure.

And, to justme2202, I find it quite funny that you say that like having to register your guns is normal. It isn't and Nebraska doesn't require it.

Also, to whoever mentioned the tracing through purchase records, that would depend on how long ago the gun was purchased. Those records aren't permanently kept by the federal government.

No one is allowed to touch my firearm other than me...not even my husband if he is not cleaning it (them)...he has his own guns so why bother with mine....but then that is just me.

my son used my gun more than i ever have in the 20 something years i had it i never minded him taking it to the range. it is just recently i even had much interest in handling my own gun but now that i've decided it a good idea to keep it and carry it with me, it will not just be sitting in a box under the bed or not readily on or about my person

i don't think i'd lend anyone other than my son my gun

Omaha does

I'll bet you every 4473 ever filled out is on file somewhere

i wouldnt' be surprised if in the future they manufacture guns with tracking devices on them being they already in our vehicles and phones and other bought items heard they track even clothing it's kinda freaky how the government wants to track everything like that when frankly it shouldn't be none their gd business what we buy sell or use or who we talk to or where we travel to .........so long we not harming others
