So what, exactly, is the problem with S.Carolina & Georgia honoring each other

When I took the CWP class, our instructor told us a story of how some time ago, our then SLED chief was involved in a pissing match with his Georgia equivalent, & one of the results of said pissing match was the 2 border states not honoring each other's permits. Anyone else heard this or know of more specific details? For these 2 states not to have reciprocity is RIDICULOUS!!

I feel your pain up here in NH. I have my CC Permit in NH, but Massachusetts will not honor it in anyway. We share a border! so gotta be real careful when down by the mass border that you dont accidentally cross over in some parts.

Would expect nothing less from an ultra-liberal state like Massachusetts. Now Georgia, on the other hand, smack dab in the heart of the Bible Belt....

I travel from SC to GA frequently and in fact am in GA now and although I there is m
no reciprocity I simpley pull my glock out of my belt and place it on the seat...open car carry. The best way to get GA used to be non-resident NH till they jacked the rate up...now its non-resident Florida. Sorry for going off topic....I too would love to know the reason.

I was told that SC will not honor GA b/c they don't require the similar training requirements as SC. Such as firing range test. GA says they will not honor SC since theirs is not honored. I'm not sure of GA's requirements, so I'm not completely sure. Just what i was told. Sounds like a pissing match to me.

I'm just going to get a non resident NH to carry in GA, AL, and MS.

rrman1280, We were told the same thing. GA isn't as strict on giving out CWP. I too will get a non resident permit from NH in order to carry in GA. I would hate to think just anyone can get a permit on top of limited training.

It is not a pissing contest between two people but just the way the laws of the two states read. SC will establish reciprocity with states that have similar requirements for obtaining a CWP. GA will honor the permit from any state that agrees to honor theirs. To obtain a CWP in GA you only have to have a background check, no training requirements or that is the way I understand it. Since there are no training requirements SC will not honor the GA permits. Since SC will not honor GA permits then GA will not honor SC permits.

The only way around this is either SC change their requirement for reciprocity or GA to start requiring training. Right now it is a stand-off between the two legislative bodies and neither one has shown any tendency to blink. SC did make some changes in the reciprocity requirements a few years ago but still requires training. I will add that during the debate in the Senate, GA was brought up as an example of not requiring any training but the refusal to change the requirements was not aimed at GA alone.

an Arizona permit does the same thing at about half the cost and very easy and fast to get

I looked at getting the AZ, but the waiting time was too long. I need mine by April b/c I got to travel to AL. NH is 14 day turnaround. AZ is something like 75 days. Am I correct?

I have't found an instructor that offers AZ that is not in AZ. But it was easy to find one for Utah since they publish them right on their site.

BTW, the initial non-Res for Utah is $65 and 60 day wait. Renewal is only $15/yr every 5 years.

NH is $100 for non-residents, it's good for 4 years, and the renewal is the same cost as new ($100).

AZ takes up to 75 days, the application is $60 and renewal is $43.

They are allowed 75 days but rough turn around time is 30 days.

You don't need a specific AZ class/instructor.

AZ acceptable training:

13-3112 N. An applicant shall demonstrate competence with a firearm through any of the following:

1. Completion of any firearms safety or training course or class that is available to the general public, that is offered by a law enforcement agency, a junior college, a college or a private or public institution, academy, organization or firearms training school and that is approved by the department of public safety or that uses instructors who are certified by the national rifle association.

2. Completion of any hunter education or hunter safety course approved by the Arizona game and fish department or a similar agency of another state.

3. Completion of any national rifle association firearms safety or training course.

4. Completion of any law enforcement firearms safety or training course or class that is offered for security guards, investigators, special deputies or other divisions or subdivisions of law enforcement or security enforcement and that is approved by the department of public safety.

5. Evidence of current military service or proof of honorable discharge or general discharge under honorable conditions from the United States armed forces.

6. A valid current or expired concealed weapon, firearm or handgun permit or license that is issued by another state or a political subdivision of another state and that has a training or testing requirement for initial issuance.

7. Completion of any governmental police agency firearms training course and qualification to carry a firearm in the course of normal police duties.

8. Completion of any other firearms safety or training course or class that is conducted by a department of public safety approved or national rifle association certified firearms instructor.

If you already have a home state permit that required training to receive, you already have the necessary training. A copy of your permit will suffice.

Look in to Florida non-resident...NH was definately the way togo before they jacked thr rate up...value for dollar goes to Florida I think.

Not sure of who or where but I understand that there is an instructor in Anderson, SC that can help you with the Florida permit.....

Hopefully bill hr822 will go through and make all this out of state permits and reciprocity state agreements moot. I understand it has to pass in the senate yet tho...
