You have to love the stupidity of some reporters out there, but this one takes the cake:

Ariane Raymondo-Felton – who recently filed for divorce – brought the Belgian-made pistol, an FNH Five-Seven 28mm handgun to the 20th Precinct on the Upper West Side, and the starting point guard later turned himself in for questioning, sources said.

Raymond Felton ?pointed gun? at wife after divorce filing | New York Post

Either they had it right or corrected it by the time I looked. The 5.7x28mm is the cartridge size. Just like the 9mm is actually 9x19mm. The first number is the bullet size the second is the cartridge length.

They still say this in the article (although it has been edited)....

New York Knicks guard Raymond Felton waved a pistol loaded with body armor-piercing bullets at his wife
The illegal gun’s clip was packed with 18 of the savage bullets — with one in the chamber ready to be fired,
“It’s a bad-ass gun,” a law-enforcement source told The Post of Felton’s Link Removed handgun

They have no idea what a bad-ass 28mm armor-piercing gun looks like. This is what a bad-ass 28mm armor-piercing gun looks like:

Now, that is an interesting piece of equipment:
- "operated under the Gerlich principle where a tapering bore squeezed a projectile to enable a much higher muzzle velocity"
- "a 28mm projectile was squeezed to 20mm achieving a muzzle velocity of around 1,400 m/s"
- "ammunition that consisted of a tungsten carbide core surrounded by a soft iron body"

Anyway, who carries a FNH Five-Seven 5.7x28 anyway?

I have a PS90.

Can't say I carry it around with me though.

I suppose that this is just another of many of your ill informed assumptions

Maybe so...but after doing a little googling, I can now say there really isn't a specific price that low life's tends to stay under, as most of the firearms are stolen not bought. But I still can't find any source that says the 5.7 is being used by plenty of hood people, or in more than a couple crimes since the firearms creation (one a drug dealer, the other the fort hood shooter). Everything else I have found just states that Mexican drug cartels are starting to use the 5.7 and p90 more regularly down in Mexico, and that no US police officer has been killed by a 5.7.

"Felton was initially faced a heftier second-degree weapons charge from cops — which would have likely handed him a mandatory jail term . But after his wife huddled with the District Attorney’s Office for four hours Tuesday afternoon, he was only charged with the lesser raps."

Not only does he own one of these illegal "bad-ass guns" but he points it at his wife more then once. Typical that law enforcement gives him a pass and works out something to get a lesser charge. Had this been one of us who follows the law, has a permit when required and practices actual gun safety I am fairly certain they would be trying to nail our ass to the wall and there wouldn't be any sort of lesser charges.

Would you consider 5.7x28 caliber guns a more of a novelty? How bad is the ammo situation with 5.7x28?

They're tough to find because of the lack of manufacturers. Novelty? *shrugs* I really like my PS90. If it's a novelty, so be it. But if someone breaks into my house, I have 50 rounds of novelty ready to go. The fact that they are coming out of a carbine and not a handgun, they can actually penetrate Level II body armor.

Can someone say "no knock warrant"?
