Snake identification?

I put some new fish in our pond, then went out later to see if there were any floaters and I found this little guy sunning himself. Anyone know what kind it is? You can see how tiny he is compared to the pine needles, I zoomed way in to see any markings.

Cool site! I clicked through the ones in that family, and I'm leaning more toward the banded water snake, but there's a lot of good info there. I emailed them a pic for them to ID, but it didn't work.

I thought it may be a Banded Water Snake too at first. The pattern seems to fit the Northern Water Snake. But, I also think it could be a "Banded". (Either way, great pics & beautiful snake)

What is the difference between a dead snake in the road, and a dead politician? Answer: the snake has skid marks in front of it.
