I stopped at the Sugarland Information Center and it was posted with the Gun-Buster sign.

I did not go in because I was unsure about the Federal Parks Law.

You read and read and discuss and then get stumped because you do't carry a copy of the law.

I was upset because of the sign so I left the park.

I can't recall ever seeing a gun-buster sign entering the park. I usually enter the park through Cherokee on the NC side. I have always CC'd inside the park. It's never been an issue... don't ask don't tell. On February 22nd of this year, a new law went into affect that allows permitted CCW holders to carry in National parks. Both Tennessee and North Carolina honor my permit so no worries.

My understanding of the Fed Park CC Law is that you can carry in the Park but not in buildings. The sign you saw most probably pertains only to the information center building.

The law reads something like this, firearms are prohibited in federal facilities (defined by federal law as a building or part thereof owned or leased by the federal government, where federal employees are regularly present for the purpose of performing their official duties).

Your mileage may vary, but this is how I am going to play it.

I agree with Rick and understand the law pertains to the buildings. I understand that CC in ALL government owned & leased buildings IS illegal.

There as actually been some concern about CC in the park restrooms. Under current law CC in park "out-houses" is even illegal.

I believe that the out-house rule was interpreted that since they are not maintained full time by an employee that they are not off limits for guns. I don't think this applies to the rest rooms at the visitors centers where they are attached or maintained by someone as part of the visitors center. However the out-houses along the trails that they come by on a schedule of daily or weekly to see if they are still there are OK for carry. Take this advice for what you paid for it and wide open to rebuttal from more recent rulings.
