Smith and Wesson M&P Shield

Looking into picking up my first semi-automatic firearm. I will be using it for concealed carry mostly. I am very interested in the Shield but can't find this gun anywhere. I've been looking for about 2 months online and in local gun shops and gun shows. Has anybody out there seen these around in their local gun shops? Does anybody know why Smith & Wesson is so backed up in supplying this pistol other than just being popular? Thanks for any info.

Have you looked at a Walther PPS. They are very similar, the main difference is the safety. The shield has a thumb safety while the PPS has a safe trigger just like a glock.

The Shield is an excellent CCW piece. It is well designed, well built, and reasonably priced. That is why they are so hard to find. Keep looking

I haven't got to check out the PPS at a shop. Looks like a great pistol, about the same size. Only thing is the Walther is quite a bit more $$$$ than the SW. Not sure I can justify that much difference after reading the reviews on the Shield.

Get a Glock!!! You can't go wrong. There is a reason why almost all police departments issue these as their carry weapons. Just my .02.

None in N Texas

Three gun stores I went to today in North Texas were out. All of them said they have no idea when more will be shipped. Apparently just getting in one or two at a time. Usually sold day they come in.

Yeah that's pretty much what I've been hearing. You think they would step up production a little...oh well.

Have you tried ordering one? It always seems no matter how back ordered a gun is, if I go to a particular LGS they order me one and I seem to get it in a couple of days.

I was just looking at this weapon and have to say its very nice. And I read a lot of departments are going to start a move to issue these as their carry weapons.

Look into the Bersa .380 concealed carry pistol. I’ve had one as my CCW for quite a while and it’s very accurate never had a problem with it. They go for around $250 & up.

I lucked into one .40 caliber in July. I would get on a waiting list. They seem to be running a couple months. I love this gun. It would be worth the wait. If you need something now I would recommend the glock 26. They are very similar in size. Glock isn't as thin though.

The Shield is hard to find because of its reputation for being a well built and quality gun. I got to shoot my friend's and I was highly impressed.

Yep, tried ordering. They say , get in line, there's a wait list.

Haven't tried the Glock 26. I almost ended up picking up a S&W M&P compact 9mm with 3inch barrel. I'm sure its pretty similar to the size of the Glock. I also checked out the Springfield XD sub-compact 9mm with 3". It also is a very nice gun but the thickness is just holding me back on all of these. Guess I'll just wait it out... hope its worth it.

Keep looking you will find one soon they are a wonderful piece, witch is why alot of police departments are going to them. Do not settle for a glock

I was in the same boat this past summer when trying to find one. I contacted our local Cabella's via email about one. They told me they had no idea when they would be coming in, but would add me to their list. Within 30 days I had a call that they somehow got 3-4 of them in and had one reserved for me. I don't think their voice mail had finished playing and I was out the door and on my way! :)

Seriously though, even the guy at the counter was shocked that they had any in. Supposedly S&W was supposed to have a new supply during the Q4. I would just try to get on several lists and then wait and see what happens.

By the way, I do love the gun. Having a tough time finding a Shield, I was looking at a Ruger LC9 as my CC. However, when showing my Shield to some friends who had the LC9, they were much more impressed with my Shield! So I'm glad I waited!

Isn't the Shield a 9MM and the Walther a 380?
I carry a Sig P938 in my front pocket. If you can't get a Shield on GunBroker this the best pocket pistol in 1911 form around. Unfortunately it is more expensive and equally as hard to find. I go my on GB.

Here's a vid on the Shield:

Whatever you do. Get a 9MM or above.
