I've had a S&W Sigma .40 for many years now (13 or 14), and it's a great gun. Actually, it was my first handgun that I ever bought, and I got it at a gun show in UT where I was living at the time. I bought it used, and I've shot hundreds (or possibly thousands) of rounds through it without ever having a problem of any kind. My understanding is that S&W essentially copied the Glock firing mechanism and safety, and eventually paid them something like $4 million for doing so. Regardless, it's an inexpensive, dependable firearm that I have no plans to get rid of.

I had terrible luck with my Sigma 40 cal... just being honest. I took my CCW class with it went through 200 rounds ok. I went to go shoot it after the class (just target practice) and the extractor broke... so not even 300 rounds. If I was in a war situation I would be dead. I didn't even want to fix it so i just traded it in for a Glock 27. i must say the extractor on the glocks are insane(huge)... it also made me mad enough to go buy a Para Ordnance. They have a power extractor. Instead of the extractor breaking, the extractor completely rips the rim off of the fired casing. so it does not destroy the gun. Im sorry to have to tell you that. Sounds like some other people really love them... i don't know if it was the ammo i was using or what but if s&w can't shoot the round that they created that's pretty upsetting. I never used reloads by the way so i don't know why it broke.

I own two Sigma's. A 9 and a 40. They have been good, reliable guns. However, to be honest they just seem to be a bear to shoot. I also own two Glocks, a 40 and a 45, and they both seem to be a little easier to shoot than the Sigma's.

I've had the SW40VE for about 2 years now and generally use it as my EDC. On rare occasions will I carry something smaller. I've put all types of rounds through it and never had a single jam or other malfunction - ever.

Most folks complain about the trigger pull, but there's an easy fix which lowers the pull from about 9-12 lbs down to around 6-7.5 lbs. Since doing that, my accuracy has increased about 30%, and it's much more enjoyable to shoot.

Others say it's too bulky for an EDC if you are concealing. I disagree, because I use an OWB Don Hume JIT anywhere between 3:00-4:30 depending on what I'm wearing over it. Frankly, the barrel length causes the grip handle to hold tightly to my body - much more than some of the shorter weapons I have.

I have one of the first generation Sigma's in .40 and love it. It's been awhile since I've shot it, but It was a daily carry and frequent visitor to my local gun ranges at its peak. Never had an issue with it.

Any brand of gun can have good and bad, I have shot a couple if Sigmas, if you just want a extra gun, or something inexspensive that works, and you can get it for something in the $250 range go for it, but the $400 to $450 that some place's are chargeing, No way there worth that, to much other stuff out there better

I love my 40VE. Hated the pull at first, but once I learned not to anticpate the striker release, I was shooting clean 2" inch groups a 7 yards consistantly. The stiff pull might get tiresome for shooting several boxes of ammo for pleasure, but I find it very reliable. Left with the trigger unmodified (but broken in), I feel it is very safe for concealed carry. I use my .38 snubby for daily carry, but I take the .40 with me when going in to strange or more dangerous neighborhoods.
