Smelting plant closure

I have been hearing about the Last Lead smelting plant being shut down by the EPA but I was in some kind of denial. Now I read that at the end of this month there will no longer be a Lead smelting plant in the United States.

Is this the reason Home Land Security was hoarding ammo?
Is this the reason the military is discontinuing the use of Lead ammunition?

I could be way behind on this story but Damn its frustrating.

EPA Closure of Last Lead Smelting Plant to Impact Ammunition Production

No and No. It's nothing to be at all concerned about except for more jobs lost to overseas companies that don't have to comply with the EPA's smothering regulations.

not really. there was another article that stated workers were sticking around to close the plant and many/most were moving to Missouri where Doe Run has a secondary lead smelter.

This is not the reason the military is ending the use of lead core ammo. The reason for that is that according to the current administration, the military has to be "green" about the war business, no more polluting foreign lands with bad old lead that might kill their scavenger birds or pollute their water. we're just so touchy-feely now that it makes me sick.

Another cut on the freedom tree. The EPA's unfettered "enforcement" directly resulted in the closing. Just another "under the radar" attack that will be underplayed by most sources. "ATK says" is NOT unquestionable since they "owe" the Federal gov't for some big contracts. Just keep thinking it's for your own welfare until you arrive at the FEMA interment camp.

Follow the money. Who in the EPA and in this inept administration has investments overseas that smelts lead. NOT saying anything, Juz saying.

Well... y'know... we wouldn't want to pollute the Earth with something that we dug out of the Earth.

Wait, what did I just say?

I have to disagree gunner, there are days that the inversion sets in and I can't see the 10,000 foot tall mountains that ring the valley. All because it was in the ground doesn't mean I want to breath it. I am all for research into less pollution and encouraging business to be more efficient and clean as possible.

you did read where this was started in 2003, right?
My point was not this current corrupt administration (CCA) or better yet Current Corrupt Controlling Programs (CCCP) is the only one's in on this. BUT, every action has a reaction. Ever see anything with CCCP on it??

Howdy,

There's a couple "errors" in the "news" story.

They ranging from being misleading to outright lies.

The author, Joe Wolverton, wants you to believe that this is part of Obama's "Evil Plan to Destory America" but he for some unknown reason has forgotten to mention that all of the acts that lead upto ( no pun intended ) the smelter closing was set into motion before Obama took office.

The EPA regs that Wolverton mentioned were passed into law during the Lil' George Era and were passed by a (R) controlled Congress.

Wolverton mentions the TPP and blames this on Obama.

Wrong again.

The TPP that Wolverton refers to were formed, drafted and ratified in 2005 which was before President Obama became a Junior Senator from Illinois

The TPP doesn't have anything to do with lead but has to do with Intellectual property, counterfeiting, copyrights, etc.

Gee, if Wolverton had mentioned all the info I posted then people like Navy Seal and the rest of the "+40yo SWMs that live with their Mom and have a "Command Post" in the basement" crowd would NOT have been able to get their panties in a wad.

Supply and Demand.

As long as there is a "+40yo SWMs that live with their Mom and have a "Command Post" in the basement" crowd that Demand lame BS there will be a Supply of lame BS from people like Wolverton.

Either W.C. Fields or B.T. Barnum said "There's a sucker born every minute!"

Paul

P.S. Like Wolverton I forgot to mention something:

The smelter plant was over 100 years old and I realize that the "+40yo SWMs that live with their Mom and have a "Command Post" in the basement" crowd might not understand what that means but the rest of us will realize that the plant was old and worn out. The place had been patched, rigged, expanded, etc. to the extent that the infrastructure was unrepairable.

Add in the cost of upgrading to plant to meet the EPA regs that were going into effect and the bottom line is just that the bottom line and Doe Run decided NOT to spend to money to upgrade the plant.

Pretty simple and basic Business/Accounting 101.
